I doubt the Adelson's sell.

Good investors don't run away from a short term hiccup. I don't think the Dallas Mavericks are still trending downward anymore. They have all sorts of promising assets with a new arena coming, Cooper Flagg-ism, and at least the potential of a big payday down the road.

I think you misunderstood my point. Cuban is sitting on another 20% of equity in the team which the Adelson’s can leverage. IF Cuban gets the bidding for the franchise up then his equity increases in value and it will cost another BILLION dollars (or more) to buy Cuban down to 7%.

Cuban is trying to drive the valuation UP because another 20% of the franchise is about to transfer… IF as you point out the Adelson’s are smart as we assume.

so if the value of the franchise was lowered it would cost them less to buy Cuban down to 7% and that makes me think that the Luka trade was a bit more nefarious of an event than we thought because that trade definitely had to negatively impact the franchises net worth which probably pissed Cuban off a lot and not just because he was pro Luka. You do a contract you need to protect yourself better Cuban.

All around tremendously great news for the "Lindsey or better" crowd. Exciting!

I thought I was done with this franchise for the foreseeable future after the shitshow of last year.  Flagg sucked me back in, but it was tentative.  When I came back to this blog I said the only way I would be able to fully embrace this organization was if Nico was fired and Dumont brings in somebody competent to run the show and stays hands off.  Never imagined it might all happen in less than a year.

100 % Kyrie is great, but just imagine how good an 1000% Kyrie will be.

Not surprising. Personally I would want to see him get some real action this year to reduce the uncertainty. Although with the teams record and Kyrie being cautious rehabbing previous injuries this was always the most likely outcome.

Is Kyrie sitting out 100% about tanking, at this point? Maybe, maybe not. We can't really know. I'm sure it's at least part of the equation. Is Kyrie sitting out a sign that 34 year olds don't recover as quickly (or even as well) to injuries like this? Maybe, maybe not. I think that's probably true, but again, we don't know to what extent tanking is playing a part in this decision.

I think it would be unwise for the Mavs to assume he's going to be the same player, especially since his days are numbered even in the best possible scenario. I kind of feel like seeing him for 10-20 games, even when wins are basically unwanted, might have been a good idea. You know, just to see him with Flagg a little. See if he can actually play PG for long stretches, and how that looks. I'm tempted to say that the Mavs would probably have wanted that, and that this news might be bigger than it seems, only we just don't know. He could be healthy right now and this could be 100% about the circumstances of the season.

I find the unknowns challenging, as a fan. When the team is trying to win with everything they have, motivations become so much clearer, and it's easier to make logical connections to what they're not telling us based on their actions.

If Kyrie is going to be here next year, I hope he's himself again. This should help with losses, but the "hopes" and "ifs" will be even thicker over the summer now.

I think it is safe to assume that tanking plays a part in Kyrie's and the Mavs' decision to sit out this year. Had they been in the playoff hunt, I'm sure he'd have tried to accelerate the process of getting back on the court and helping the team. There is just no reason to incur that risk now with the state of the team and the record they've earned.

Hopefully he comes back around at 80% of his former self. But that may be asking too much. Guess we'll just have to wait and see..
