I wonder if Charlotte makes a move at the trade deadline. For once, they are on the right direction. Fun young team. Do they look for a medium move that may make them a threat in round 1? They have a mix of expirings....some extra draft capital. I wonder if they look for a medium type move this trade deadline.

What would a Toronto offer for Gafford look like?
Quote:Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford and New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi are at the forefront of the Raptors' trade deadline plans. Missi is also drawing a lot of interest from the Chicago Bulls, who are holding separate conversations with teams regarding Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu. Quote:Regarding Missi, both the Bulls and Raptors have held trade dialogue with the Pelicans. After being an All-Rookie selection a season ago, Missi does not hold first-round value in trade talks, and teams believe a deal involving him before the deadline that revolves around second-round picks is likely, sources said. Quote:Whereas the Bulls spoke with the Pelicans about both Missi and Zion Williamson, the Raptors were focused on Missi and Trey Murphy III. Toronto has been aggressive this season on the trade market, and they brought up the idea of packaging RJ Barrett, Ochai Agbaji, and draft picks to acquire both Missi and Murphy from New Orleans, which sources said was something the Pelicans weren't willing to do. Quote:In talks with Toronto, the Pelicans have not shown interest in moving Murphy. But trading Missi to Toronto is very much in play, as the Raptors want to add another big man and dip below the luxury tax this season.https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/latest-giannis-antetokounmpo-jonathan-kuminga-nba-trade-intel-updates-one-week-before-deadline

Giannis for Luka.

I think Giannis will be moved before the TDL. I think the Warriors will win out unless OKC decides to throw their endless draft picks at it..lol

Shams says Minnesota is a serious suitor for Giannis.
In all seriousness, if I am rebuilding Milwaukee what does Minnesota have that would interest me?

Read that hear offer can offer up to two first round picks. If they wait to the summer they can offer the same package but with 4 first round picks

If I am Giannis, I prefer Miami to Golden state. Miami is in the weaker East and they have a history of finding good players.
Golden State is a faded dynasty. Playing with Steph has great appeal but he is 37. It crashes down like a house of cards when he drops a notch. Plus you need to deal with Draymond every day. If I MIl I prefer the warriors assets to Miami draft assets. The question will the current MiL GM ever get to pick those picks so far out?

Does Giannis even fix enough of what's wrong with GS to merit leveraging their post Curry future? I think there's a good argument in favor of going for it, because how many Curry's is one team gonna get, but...idk. I'd really struggle with that decision.

I think it's the right thing to do for Steph, but possibly not the right thing to do for the franchise. It's definitely risky, but that team owes Steph everything they have imo. They were nobody before him. They were fun to watch, but always taking a back seat to the other California teams. If this was Dirk and Dirk was still 90% of his prime, I think we would all want this trade to be made for Dirk. That's the closest comparison I can come up with. Steph will never leave GS.

NBA TDL intel. One player to watch is the Bulls' Ayo Dosunmu. Always liked him as a player.

[Anthony Slater] The Warriors are willing to surrender all of their future 1st-round draft picks through 2032 for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Golden State is ready to offer Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, a massive pick haul, plus matching salary.

I'm not saying I'd do this, but a package of Davis / Naji / '26 FRP Swap / '29 FRP (LAL) / '31 FRP / '32 FRP Swap has to be equal to or better than some of the others I've seen. With hitting on Flagg and having Kyrie back next season, while adding a top draft pick this summer (assuming both MIL & DAL are top-10), make adding Giannis worth it to the Mavs?

Although, would the current GM ever get the chance to make those picks? Seems like he is signing his death notice. Same if they were to get future picks that they owe to the Blazers. The more I think about it, Atlanta is just staring at me. I know there are reports they are not giving up the NO pick, but that would need to be included. I believe the Bucks have second rights to their pick, NO pick and the Suns pick. If they got the NO pick, they may have 2 top 8 picks in a loaded draft. Throw in Rischacher, maybe Newell, and Cavs pick? That will allow the current GM to use assets now. I do wonder how much the Bucks decide to work with Giannis. Do they send him to his top 1-2 destinations as a good will gesture. Also, how much influence does Giannis exert in the process. This could impact the offers as well.

3 teams to watch for a trade no matter what (might be a minor one, but something): TOR, DEN, PHX
All 3 are barely over the tax line (all less than $0.75M over that line), and each would be looking for a trade that sheds a minor amount of salary.
* Dumont reportedly "has no problem going into next year with a healthy AD and a healthy Kyrie with Cooper Flagg and seeing what it looks like."

Majority of good teams are extremely close to one of the aprons or hard caps and can't really take more money. Tanking teams that have cap space will want something. So, assuming no bigger trade happens: - Toronto will trade Agbaji. He is good enough and it shouldn't be a problem finding a place for him while saving some money. Perhaps even without assets attached. - Denver will try to trade Nnaji. But, he is not good, has two more years on his deal after this season, and Denver only has 1 SRP to offer. I don't think that is enough to get rid of that deal. Alternative could be Valanciunas, but they kind of wanted him. Would they consider trading Watson, who has a breakout season? Trading him for a vet min guy would put them below the tax. I don't think they will be able to keep him in the summer, as they are projected to be over the first apron even without him. He would fetch at least one FRP now. His low cap hold and restricted status could be very valuable to some teams - Phoenix will trade Richards. It will probably cost them a SRP for someone to take him, but perhaps they can get away with just paying cash, as he is on a 5 mil expiring deal.

Where would you rate a Giannis/Bam/Powell top three?

Giannis/Adebayo is an interesting pairing, but there's nowhere close to enough offensive creation on that team. I think he's going to be a Warrior. That's the team most likely to benefit on court from adding him, and also the team most likely to age out in time for the draft capital heading back to Milwaukee to become significant. I'm not sure I'd even do the trade if I was running GS, but if they go for it I'd jump at the chance in Milwaukee's shoes.

Warriors get Giannis and give Steph his star running buddy for the last few years of his career. Bucks get a ton of picks which have the chance to be high picks when Steph is gone/Giannis older. They get a chance to look at Kuminga before deciding on that contract option. Pods is a decent little role player. I assume the Bucks completely tear it down if they trade Giannis before the deadline. Ports, Kuzma, Turner, etc will be shipped out. It'll be a fire sale in Milwaukee. |
