2025 draft thread: THE MAVS SELECT COOPER FLAGG
The lottery isn't rigged, my dudes. Take this for the miracle that it is. It's a miracle.

Happy for the Mavs, but tell that to the Wizards, Jazz, Sixers, and Hornets. They had the best odds and still got screwed.

Correct, and every single one of their owners would have to be in on it for it to be rigged.

It’s the dumbest possible thing for an NBA fan to believe.

That‘s the goal of the new lottery odds, to not reward hardcore tanking on a regular basis. Their chances of not getting a Top 4 pick were fifty-fifty (for each of them, not for the combination, to be mathematically precise). And the Sixers did well in the end I guess with the third pick, didn’t they?

Ok we won the lottey (maybe rigged maybe not) but i like this way, i ever disliked the hard tanking. It's not sport.

The best argument against it being rigged is Kyrie's injury, which was necessary for us to even be in the lottery. But I guess you could make the case, that we got promised the first pick for "the next time being in the lottery". Or we just had dumb luck. Either way, I will take it. This was the only way to get me out of my depression and give me hope for the future of this franchise so I will not second guess this. I still miss Luka, but I am not sick to my stomach anymore when I think about the future.

“Sources told ESPN that [Flagg’s] camp realized how fortunate he is to land in Dallas. Flagg is said to be thrilled by the idea of joining a playoff-caliber roster with strong veterans and a team that has a void at the small forward position.”

Just takes one. All Silver had to do was say "Vlad, you're good at rigging things. Rig these ping-pong balls..."

FWIW, Memphis' play-in win put DAL in the lottery and led to the current euphoria about the advent of the Cooper Flagg era.

But that one win, not only made MEM miss the lottery. It also cause them to give up their lottery-protected FRP, kind of a double whammy. Plus it gave a team that was basically ready to go fishin', the ignominy of getting spanked 4-0 in the first round. Nevermind they have their own roster problems, i.e., what to do with Morant.

My brother is a big Grizz fan. Sent him a thank you card yesterday.

Anyone who thinks this was rigged is low IQ.

Right. Impossible to cheat without everyone agreeing. Smart take.

And anyone who speaks with certainty about things they don’t know?

You mean like saying the draft was rigged. Yes, low IQ.

Knowing what I've learned about HOW the process of selecting the balls works over the past 48 hours, YES. Impossible to cheat without literally hundreds of people in on it. That is a fact.

LeBron leaves Cavs --> #1 pick
Lebron returns to Cavs --> #1 pick
AD leaves Hornets --> #1 pick
Luka leaves Mavs --> #1 pick

What are the odds.

Wait can the Mavs retroactively ask for the #1 pick in 2026 for losing Brunson, after he wins the title and MVP this year?  Big Grin

Eh. I bet it would take a talented magician a month to figure this out. Manipulate the balls or the machine.

I would've thought that, too, before I dug in over the past few days. I just don't think it's possible.

Further, I don't think the motivations are as clear as conspiracy theorists believe. Sooo many conflicting agendas would have to find common purpose to pull it off. It's so far-fetched I don't even think it's worth wondering about, personally.

Is it just me, or does it seem that every "sports" writer has a scenario for why DAL should trade away CF and the #1 pick? I've seen multiple trades with LALs. One with CHi. Multiples to MKE for Giannis. Trades to PHX for Durant and/or Booker. etc. etc.

Like it or not, there were reasons why the MBT soured on the Luka Experience, which individually, we may or may not agree with. But none of those things are in play with CF and anyone who thinks trading someone with his upside for a "star" on the back end of his career is just hoping for clicks.

Anyway, my mini-rant for hump day. Thanks for tuning in!
