2025 draft thread: THE MAVS SELECT COOPER FLAGG

1 Cooper Flagg is the ONLY player for the Mavs to draft. I said it many times. Do you guys believe me now???
2 While Nico is a dolt, if he even CONSIDERS doing anything other than drafting and keeping CF, he should (a) be fired on the spot, and (b) be PUBLICLY outed and humiliated for even suggesting something so idiotic. 

Not that he didn't already demonstrate total idiocy of course, but that would be even worse, believe it or not. And it would be yet another in a growing pile of dumb moves. 

One caveat. If Nico somehow conspired with NBA itself to move from Luka to CF, at a league-designated price (which, even if true, can't be proven), then maybe there's hope. And admittedly, there have been MANY times in the past when it's seemed the NBA had it's fingerprints on the lottery outcome.

This is what worries me. 0% they reboot. ZERO. So, I hope Harrison/Dumont aren't thinking of ways to use this pick for dumb purposes.

Giannis wouldn't surprise me.  And I don't think the Kyrie/Giannis/AD is a championship team as there are just too many question marks.  I agree with you that I don't think they'll reboot, but they need to.  Further, as much as I love watching Kyrie play and think he's been a good Maverick, I really don't want him near our next cornerstone.

Couldn't agree more, and I'm relatively confident they won't make a mistake with the pick. 

I'm less confident, but still hopeful, that they'll reshape the team quickly and in the right way to make the pick matter on day 1. There's a path somewhere in front of them that makes this team a contender during the rookie contract phase of Flagg's career.

Sure, Nico and Dumont don't deserve this. Maybe Flagg is great and transcendant. I think we should be happy if he is 80% of what Luka is. Maybe he is better.

Still, I never once complained about Cleveland getting James, SA getting Duncan, SA getting Wemby. So I can care less about people complaining the league is rigged. I will read those comments with a smile on my face. Bring them on.

For a terrible and franchise altering season for the franchise, it is nice to finally have a smile.

If the Mavs re-structure the team (as they should), the ones taken from trades should be youngsters and not win-now guys. The team should be built around Flagg moving forward with guys about his age bracket. Mavs are in for another long rivalry with the Spurs in the coming years. I'd like someone else stable to build that team, and that means Nico ain't it.

I really hope he doesn’t trade this. He seemed genuinely happy. 

I don’t want Giannis or Booker and a smaller window.  Take Cooper.  Reduced salary.  Much larger window.  Let’s Go!!!

Flagg fits Nico's mold though. Defensive minded guy first. Probably the most elite defensive prospect since Davis. 

Can't preach defense wins championships for 3 months and then turn your nose up on the best prospect in that area.

I really do not think Nico would want to be known as the guy who traded away Luka and Flagg in the span of 3 months.

And as someone who preached defense wins championships until he was blue in the face, well... what was the reason he traded Flagg then? Because Cooper is a transformational defender.

Every cynical Mavs fan who is dooming about Nico either not drafting Flagg or trading the pick needs to come around to the idea that this really was rigged. Nico traded Luka for AD, Flagg, Christie, and a future 1st. Flagg is part of the master plan and isn't going anywhere. At the very least, it will help you enjoy the moment.
