Good article if you’re interested in Luka’s future as a Mav.
Yes, very good article. I think there is very little chance he doesn't sign the extension in 2025, and the moves made over this last year make it even more likely he signs. Makes giving up the picks/swaps less painful.

Between now and July of next year we do everything we can to improve the team to his liking. So nothing stands in the way of him signing that. If we can keep making moves and keep the 2031 FRP we will be in great shape

This was my takeaway also. The absolute minimum amount of money he’d lose by not being a Maverick in one way or another is $100M. That’s pretty significant.
“ So, what are the 4 years the Mavericks would therefore have Luka under team control?
2026-27
2027-28
2028-29
2029-30
These just happen to be the 4 drafts the Mavericks don’t have control over their potential high-end draft picks. Therefore the Mavericks will either have Luka or whatever they’d receive if he forced a trade at some point during these seasons. This means they are making a smart bet that Luka will commit to them in July 2025 for a deal initially worth 100+ million more than anyone else could offer 12 months later”
I actually LOVE that these are the FRP/Pick Swaps the FO has been trading instead of the ones the next 5 years. They will use the immediate picks to continue to upgrade and by that time you’ve built a team in Luka’s timeline to be great. Hell, they might even be great this year and next.

It seems like in today's NBA, the path that players choose is to sign with their current team at whatever maximum is available, and then force a trade to a more palatable team. See James Harden.
So in theory, Luka could sign his supermax deal and then promptly refuse to play without being traded. But in this scenario (bad as it might be), Dallas gets significant assets in return. It's not a total loss, like the Brunson case. Even Harden's selfish behavior netted the Sixers Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum, KJ Martin, a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks, a 2029 pick swap and an additional first-round pick from OKC.

What I have liked about the last three games (against two bad teams to be truthful) is we are much better aligned to let Luka and Ky be Luka and Ky. Let them be your stars. When your stars are killing it in a game, it shouldn't be to scrap by with a win. When your stars are playing like stars that should be a win on most nights. The last few games give me hope this will be the case more often.

Kind of wish I made a thread for the Rising Stars challenge now. Darth Lively with some help from Bennedict Mathurin carried Chet to winning it. It was a really smart move to make one of the teams comprised of G league players, they actually came to compete and it was hilarious when they knocked Wemby out of the first round.

For the last month, Luka has been the NBA's best player.
Brunson #7 on that list ahead of KD, Steph, and Kawhi? Wow!
Pessimism doesn’t make you smart, just pessimistic.

Lively was impressive. Changed the game immediately when he came in both games. Chet is soft. I like the matchup for us if we play OKC in the playoffs
Also hilarious that two way players and g league ignite beat team Wemby. Jaquez the only player on that team looking any good. Not impressed with Jabari Smith

Lively torched everyone. Truly carried his team with his energy and his ability to be in the right spots.
Over the 2 games, 12 points, 2 rebounds, 6/6 from the floor, +20 overall.

Dereck Lively II on what he's learned playing with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving: "You just got to find your position to fit in. I'm not going in there trying to be me, me, me, me, me... You have find your way into the team and trust one another to build chemistry. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it doesn't. We've been lucky enough to have it click."

Dereck Lively II was asked about Grant Williams' viral comment: "Just going out there — why would I want to shoot a 3 if I give the ball to Luka and Kai, then they're going to knock down a step back 3 or a side step 3? Having players like that, you just have to play basketball. Not going out there, focusing on the name on the back of your jersey, focus on the name on the front of your jersey."

Lively really changed the math for the mavs. He is much better now then they had hoped and he has a chance to be really good way before they thought. Maybe not next year, but there is a real chance he can be your third best player on a contender at age 22. It it is not certain but it is in play. Plus he is the exact type of guy this team needs who isn’t a heavy ball touch guy.
His personality and playing hard all the time is just an added bonus.

I find it odd that Draymond wears the same one frequently...same colors and everything.
Is this some signature that they are united but from a different Galaxy? Its their signature or something?
It stands out as ugly for a reason. The white zipper...is the cheapest zipper you can buy. Look at those fat, large, spread out teeth on that zipper. Just ugh.
I dont understand why two wealthy guys would be wearing that thing. Something is up with that thing.

Lively is a funny dude.
Luka seemed a little confused to see another Maverick at All-Star weekend.

I think all of the honorary coaches were wearing that. It was Indiana so it probably has something to do with the Pacers colors. I don't think Jalen Rose had a choice in the matter

Ive seen Draymond wear the same garment...last year and this year...at a regular game.
Maybe its just same designer. Thing is not only ugly...but looks cheap.
Hopefully its not some piece of clothing someone with disabilities made and thats why they wear it. I cant take it back even if it was...but at least it would kind of help the situation make sense.
