I'd prefer Bertans/McGee/THJ/27 for Bojan/Hayes/Burks/Noel. If we can grift a second rounder out of them, all the better. I know that kills future trade flexibility, but Hayes could end up being an asset, Noel is a better backup big than Javale (which isn't saying much), and Bojan and Burks can both ball. You also got rid of your two worst contracts.
You could then do something else with Bullock (cheat NY out of something value), especially if you got that second rounder.

Would you trade Wood and Frank for Isaac if you know Wood isn’t gonna sign an extension?

No way. He makes KP look like AC Green. Six seasons. 136 games in total. KP played 134 games for the Mavs in three seasons.

Good news is you get to try him out. Before 1/10/24 he is only guaranteed $7.4M, if he’s not working out. Before 1/10/25 he’s not guaranteed any money. If that 24 offseason is the target snd he turns out to be the same dud, you can trade him and the other team can waive him for $0.

Not sure Detroit does it. If they were willing, would you? I understand that Bojan has an option of sorts on his final year which might make his contract go away or be easily traded in 2025, and the other two expire then, so that fits into Cuban's stupid Plan Powder approach.
Speaking of which, I look for the Mavs to money-whip Wood with a ludicrous-per-year-for-him two-year deal this summer, thus preserving Cuban's stupid plans.
If the Wood question gets to the summer, I suspect he will get the TC treatment. My guess is it is a money-whipped one year at above market price. Or, two year at over-market dollars with the second year being a TO. Powell may get the same treatment
The deal you propose is the perfect ‘move-25-money-into-24’ trade. It didn’t get much reaction when I posted it yesterday, but if the new CBA doesn’t fix the 120% extension rule, 2024 is going to be a fantastic UFA summer. I named the names yesterday. If Dallas has a Plan Powder coming, it will be for 24, not 25. I have a feeling this will be my ‘Brunson-why aren’t you people believing me’ stance for the current season.
In your deal, you move off of THJ and Bertans who both carry money into 25, and replace them with two guys who are free after 24 and Bojan who has a small non-guaranteed amount for 25. It isn’t about talent, though it would allow us to remain competitive. It is about finding Robin in the 2024 free agent class.
Yeah, yeah, Miami and GS and LA get the guys they want without cap room. But, we aren’t them. We need a credible threat of space and the trade you propose would certainly do that.
PS: Some of the Orlando guys who are being discussed tonight (thinking Bamba and G. Harris mainly) would be logical trade targets for THJ in a Powder 24 scenario. Some of the other chunky expiring or TO contracts in 24 include: T. Harris, Hayward, Lowry, Conley, E. Gordon, Beasley, Rose, Olynyk and Fournier.

Give me Wood over Turner at their respective prices. Concerns about Turner’s playoff viability are valid, as are those about his health.

We need to put some context in the whole Myles Turner defense shenanigans. First of all take a look at that Indiana roster. Put one of Bullock/Green/DFS on that roster and he is instantly the 2nd best defender on the team. Playing good defense with guys like Nembhard, Buddy noD Hield and Nesmith isn't realy that easy. Oh and we all know who their coach is...
He isn't the most mobile big, but he can slide his feet against the quciker guards, and whatever lack of quickness he has, he makes it up with his elite shootblocking instincts. It's also easier for other players to play defense, once you know you have someone like Myles behind your back guarding the rim.
I think he would be awesome on our team.

The Locked-On guys proposed THJ for Noel/Burks. Not sure who has to add anything to that.

There’s an article in the Toronto Star that some team has already offered 3 firsts for OG. I would assume if it’s true it’s probably the Knicks.
The NBA is always kind of an arms race when it comes to collecting basketball talent but these last few years we’ve seen another arms race on the other side with folks collecting first round picks. The fact that the Mavs have seemingly not participated in either of those makes me pretty nervous…

I would probably do this from a basketball standpoint but I worry that these are two rentals.

Rentals for rest of this season and next. Both have TO for 23/24.

Jaxson Hayes, Mo Bamba, Cam Reddish, Cam Thomas, RJ Hampton....who has the potential to be the best defender of this group? I am not sure if all are available, but I would be interested in a low cost gamble for all. All are 24 and below (Bamba is 24). Anymore buy low former lottery picks (outside of Thomas) who have not made a jump yet?

I am still struggling with this mindset that you have to have all your contracts expire in 24 in order to clear room for free agents. Miami, GS and LA are not unique in that they can clear cap when they need to (anybody can do that), they are unique in that they can actually attract max free agents to begin with. If you need to clear cap you just need movable contracts or draft capital. If the Mavs plan it correctly, they will have both.
I find it hard to believe they will have trouble moving Timmy's contract at 16 mil when he will be an expiring and potentially an asset at that amount. Bertans will only be a 5 mil hit. I don't see that we need to make moves right now with explicit purpose of clearing those two for 24, especially when it involves spending assets.
