Even though Bojan signed that extension, if things go south for Detroit ( most don't expect them to win a lot this year) can they still trade him?

We are not there yet, but I really hope there is a Donovan Mitchell type trade ahead for us to make. Paying premium for a guy who may have had a rough series or patch of play. There won't be a no brainer trade, I don't believe. Any trade will require some risk but the Mavs need to be right. Which is a little concerning with the current front office imo.
A more important question, is would our offense and Luka change if you added a player like Mitchell to our team?

Sometimes there is value in the bargain bin. You need to be a little lucky but there is also some skill evaluating.

Props to DSJ for changing his game.
Thought we’d never hear from him again.

Wait, isn't this the point at which all the haters pile on and bash the Mavs' front office for really poor talent evaluation?

Sucks we didn't throw him a contract. Would've been risky since we didn't know if he could provide any reliable minutes, but DSJ looks to have turned a corner finally.

What would be the point? If you don´t understand that by now, you are a hopeless homer.
This team gives a three year contract to a 35 year old journeyman for defensive anchoring, rebounding, shotblocking, effort and energy. A player that is known for low basketball IQ, consistent foul trouble and breathing hard after 12-15 MPG. So at the tail end of his career you give that player essential a retirement package. I mean I cannot believe that this went wrong.
How did he not become a conditioning wonder with limitless effort and elite rim protection under these circumstances, I´ll never know.

We could have had him extremely cheaply. He was essentially ours to lose. And he would likely be one of our eight best players given how lots of our guys are playing. Call us "haters" all you want. Failing to lament how dynamically skilled this FO is at botching opportunities should be the natural response of someone who *loves* the Mavs.

I believe he signed a non guaranteed deal with Charlotte? I certainly wasn't riding the sign DSJ bus. I mentioned there were several guys I would have been fine with. I did prefer DSJ to Campazzo, but it wasn't a huge deal for me. Looking back, gambling on a younger player may have been the smarter move. We will see how Campazzo fits in here though.
I am still confused on why there was such a slow movement to signing Campazzo as reports said Kidd and the front office was sold on him months ago. The front office moved fast on the KP trade and it worked out well last year (KP playing well so far this year though), but the rest of their moves seem so deliberate. That can be a good or bad process...depending on results. I would like to get a better understanding on why they appear to move so slow though.

I know it is not even two weeks into the season but as expected Portland, Utah and the Spurs are battling for the best record while Memphis, Dallas, Golden State, LAC and Denver are trying to make the playin tourney

Don't know how the fit would be, but they could have had Drummond for the vet minimum. He's not the defender McGee is but he is a space eater and probably the best rebounder in the league plus he's younger. He's played well for the Bulls.

IKR, still early but what those teams are doing is kinda impressive when they were expected to tank.

Don´t expect it to stay like this but at some point the wheels of some of the veteran teams in the league will fall off. Maybe it is this year. Maybe next year. But the contender window is closing. Clippers and Warriors belong in that category. Same for the Nets and Heat in the east. Mavs to a lesser degree because of Luka but looking at the role players a big roster overhaul is going to be needed in the not so distant future. Too many guys on the wrong side of 30.

Yeah, the Clippers, Nets and Heat are going to be very interesting to watch. I would argue that both the Heat and Clippers are very well run (Clipps just have had awful injury luck), but they are both in win now mode. The Nets are a whole different story. I think the Warriors are much better positioned as long as Steph is good. I just trust their system.
For the supposed tanking teams, I expect they either run out of steam on their own or their front office assists with this. OKC typically plays very well the first half of the season, but then go on long losing streaks as the season goes in the second half of the season. I think Utah and SA will go this route as the season progresses. It sucks losing to Utah twice though (Memphis) early in the season.
