Some guy talks about Starter McGee, rotations being flexible, and matchups dictating the starting lineup. Does some guy know much about basketball? I've never heard of him.

He's just not the same player he was then, I don't think. The thing is, we can’t really say what Green will be in a year from now. But we know, if we trade him like that, we have fucked it up again. So the hope is, the Mavs can see how good he is developing and keep him therefor.

I am surprised this didn't make it to US media (or I didn't see it). Not sure if all of it is true or 100 % true. Basically, one of Slovenian players, a 30 year old very average 3-D wing, even by European standards, is claiming that Dallas offered him a 2-way contract and that naturally Luka was behind it. The guy says he declined the offer.
If true, I find it problematic. I perfectly understand Luka doesn't want to be a GM, but that should include doing favors to his friends whose only real qualification is that they are his friends. This goes both for Marko Milic as well as in this case of Edo Muric. Friends and business should be separated. Might be difficult, but it really is that simple. Everything else just leads to problems. There is no limit to how much coaching staff there can be or their payroll. The equipment manager can be anyone. Player contracts? Sorry Luka, we want to build the best team possible for you AND us to win a championship, and that ain’t it! I will say, the Antetokunmpo brothers got this treatment too.

However, thinking more about it, we can't say other teams are immune to this. Miami signed Goran Dragic brother Zoran when they signed Goran. GSW had Currys brother in law. Portland had Keljin Blevins, who is Lillards nephew, if I remember correctly.

It’s also akin to drafting Satnam Singh all because it would be great marketing to a new untapped market. I do remember the Zoran signing, I don’t remember the others, so didn’t know this was so practiced throughout the NBA.

That's how Luka ends up making people look so silly in the playoffs, because the defense is taking the screener (not only Powell, but certainly Powell when he's in there) away. It's also how Kleber got those 8 3's to drop from the corner against Utah, because Gobert had to make a choice on those plays. Thus, in the playoffs the team was +6.8 points per 100 possessions with Powell in there. Defense wasn’t good and Powell personally didn’t put a thing in the bucket. But, the TEAM won the battle during those minutes. Last I checked, that is the most important thing. Now we have the same thing offensively in a limited minutes role in McGee with much MUCH better rim protection and rebounding. We’ll be fine during the McGee minutes with Reggie, Dorian and Dinwiddie. What people are sleeping on is how good this bench is going to be. Maxi, Wood and Hardaway are the core of a fantastic group. Yes, Dinwiddie moved to the starting lineup to replace Brunson. If Tim replaces SD’s bench production, then Wood is a pure addition to what we already had in the playoffs. Powell is still here if you need more than 15 minutes of rim running for some reason (but, against bench units). Bertans has proven he can carve out a highly effective and net positive role in limited minutes and we will hopefully see some growth from Green and Frank. Absent injury issues, I still have this as a home court in the first round playoff team.

Maybe this was already mentioned but Kidd stated we had to rely on the volume three last year during the playoffs and followed that up with this year we won't necessarily have to. Considering we lost a playmaker in Brunson, that is an interesting statement.
I think he has big plans for C Wood.

Considering we lost a playmaker in Brunson, that is an interesting statement. I would venture Wood and McGee are both talent elevations that offer an even wider array of offensive options. I'm thinking McGee has the size to compete better in the paint, especially against some of the other big men. Wood (I hope) is going to be a threat from the 3pt line all the way to the rim, sort of a bigger version of DFS. I think Kidd made a similar comment a year ago, about wanting to not live and die by 3pters. And it did seem to get better for a while, but the donut hole at our 5 position started betraying use in the playoffs. Luka, Brunson and SD were able to exploit UTA and PHX big men, but GSW's ability to play small with force was too much to overcome. My anticipation is that Wood allows for more effective 5-out/small ball play while McGee is able to keep bigger opposition lineups honest. While matchups often drive lineups, I'm hoping DAL develops a chemistry that makes the other team match up to us rather than the opposite. If that happens, look out.

SD, DFS, Bullock, Powell and McGee. Talk about limited playmaking. Just a practice...Powell not using his face here.

I took Kidd's words as spin, embracing the new situation and finding ways to paint it in a positive light, rather than moaning about it. That doesn't mean he truly thinks it's better -- only that he is focused on making it work. Obviously, getting the most they can out of C Wood is one of the goals. But he's not plug and play, and it will be a process to work past the flaws and minimize them.
