Contenders soon may be a little to much. But I really liked their offseason. I know centers are devalued but I just couldn't understand why Duren didn't go earlier. I will be interested to see if I was right on that. I am still a Bagley fan and think he is an interesting gamble. They just went from a team that was rudderless over a year and a half ago to maybe one of the most exciting young teams in the league. And they may have a guy who actually matters in Cade.

They should legitimately contend in a couple of years. It's not out the realm of possibility, they may even fight for a play-in spot next year. Depends on how soon they develop continuity playing with each other, and adding more talent and experienced veterans.

Just read a report about Kawhi wanting to get paid with his next contract and the team that can pay the most is LACs. The implication is that he's hoping to get a supermax deal when his current deal runs out after 23-24.
I know he's a great talent, as he's proven everywhere he's been, but is he a John wall level risk for lost time to injury? He's had essentially two missed seasons in the last 5. Granted he won a trophy in Toronto, but then he tore an ACL during the 2021 playoffs and ended up missing all of last season. LAC signed him to a 4 year $176M max contract with a 4th year PO.
Despite the fact that Kawhi can definitely carry a team, I have the feeling that signing him to a 5yr Max in 2024 is asking for another John Wall situation where the team has a large chunk of its cap space taken by a guy who's in the training room. I understand that Ballmer has more money than he can spend, but couldn't this end up strangling their roster?
Also, the current CBA runs through the 23-24 season, with an opt out after next season. Given the profligate spending by GSW, LAL, BKN, etc. is there any will to re-negotiate? Sometimes the owners want to save themselves from themselves.

The good news for the Clippers is that he has three years left on his deal. He can opt out of the last year of his deal which is just shy of $49M. He'll be 33 that season. They have two years to see how his health holds up. A supermax seems risky for a 33 year old even if you don't factor in the health and personality quirks though I'm not sure the personality quirks are a big factor since he is playing where he wants to play. I'm also done predicting those max contracts are immovable considering CP3's history and KL is more akin to CP3 than he is Westbrook or Wall from a talent standpoint.

A little bit. Big difference is that teams can be promoted/relegated. For a lower division team it makes a big difference. Investor/owner like this immediately puts them levels above the competition when it comes to spending power.

Sucks. I think he would have fit in pretty well here.

I would guess they won’t be the favorites next year and time will tell if their picks this past year can play. But their system just makes player look better. It would not shock me to see Donte D look like a 10-15 million dollar player in their system.
They have plenty of upside with their young players too. Supposedly they really like their second round pick. When most teams say that, I just sort of shrug. You need to pay a little attention and Golden state says it.

Nope. Money wins. Playground for millionaires, billionaires, companies or even states. Sounds a little bit strange because US sport is just as much about big spenders but the amount of foreign money (from very questionable sources) that flooded the european leagues really dimished my interest. Takes transfer fees in the 100+ million range and "blood money" from Russia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia or the UAE to be competitive at the top level.
Still my favorite sport to play. Way down the list of favorite sports to watch.

Hmmm, probably worse.
In Europe there are many leagues that competes against each other,Spain and England are the best ones, English Premier league is wealthier and currently better but Spain waa better league between 2008- 2018 , although even then EPL was wealthier.
In Spain the main league is 20 teams, the second (lower) division is 22 teams, the 3rd division is 40 teams (was 80 till 2020-2021 season)
So while drop between top league and lower one is probably less than that of NBA and G-league, the 3rd division is far off.
Only similarity is that top teams has reserve teams they own that competes there, for example Barcelona and Real Madrid reserve teams compete in that league.
So there are exciting prospects there, for example Messi (arguably Soccer GOAT) played 22 games there when he was young.
Worth noting that at this level, those clubs are bankrupt. So not very expensive for a low end millionaire to buy them.
If managed well, can be pretty profitable too.
A club named Villarreal was in 3rd division in Spain 30 years ago, a club that represents a city with 50K population and they win a European title beating a club that has a stadium that fits over 70K.

If you you watched summer league with no knowledge of the players, I think just about anyone would pick him as the best player on our team.
Feron Hunt last year too.

Sure, but they'd also think the Mavs' team sucked, so I have no problem with them looking elsewhere to fill spots.

That´s what I thought. Team was so freaking bad. Have no interest in any of the guys on the Mavs roster and that includes Wright.
