This from a much later time, almost December. Interesting to see viewpoints at that time, particularly the Bullock hate. That has certainly come around. Don't think anyone would have imagined that folks would be willing to pay Brunson 25 a year by end of season.

He was an expiring and the ties to NY were known at the time. Don't see how we could have upgraded wing in that situation. Best case would have been Mitchel and our 23, which would have made a lot of sense considering we just traded away our starting center for a potential Brunson replacement (Dinwiddie). If there was any chance that was on the table, then we really fucked up.

Let me preface by saying that Bullock had arguably one of the best playoff runs on the roster, but dude was bad out of the gate. I still think $10m per year is a little pricey but again maybe ballooning NBA salaries has broken my internal math processor.

Would have been poetry too as I recall a lot of people wanting Robinson with that pick and then making fun of the MBT for their love of tiny PGs.

What I remember my thought process being is that if Brunson was here after the TDL, they had to be willing to pay whatever it took to keep him.
Maybe it's revisionist of me, but I feel like I was pretty open to either outcome (trading him or overpaying him) in order to prevent the outcome we're about to be stuck with (Brunson walking for nothing from a cap strapped team in an extremely inflexible position).

Bidding war with the Knicks to a certain number that requires them to clear cap space and then offer to help the clear that cap space for a tip. Pray JB has enough loyalty to help push that compensation back to us.

The S&T question, as many have said, is basically whether it will cost NY something to move on from Burks or Noel. If they have to pay a third team to take one of them, then Dallas should expect the same offer.
BTW, you can get pretty close to the numbers needed for $100mm by simply moving Reddish. I think NY paid a first for Reddish, so I doubt a pick gets attached to now move Reddish a few months later.
I also have doubts we get our first back. As others have mentioned, it may be their best first that they have next year (besides their own) in a said to be strong draft.
Instead of Burkes or Noel, I would probably prefer gambling on youth. I need to look at Myles or Miles (ha) but he was well regarded in the draft last year. So maybe him and Reddish? Maybe you hit on one. I would also have interest in their UT center...but I read how they were going to put him on the roster.

That's what @"DanSchwartzgan" has been selling.
MAYBE they do it if Noel, Burks, whoever, is on the last year of their deal. If not, I bet Dallas has no interest in taking them on and increasing their tax bill. And the "tip" won't be anything to write home about.

Man, I think Brunson is a GREAT player.
Brunson is a really good player, but adding Dragic will keep this from being a complete disaster. 6-10 spots is suggesting we will go from a playoff home court team to a play-in team. I think we will have enough depth (and Luka) to keep that from happening. If something happens to Luka, Brunson would not be able to save us. I think we were like 5-9 when Luka was out.

Cuban: We had to let Jalen walk for nothing, cause we didn´t like Randle....and Noel....and Reddish.....and Grimes....and Quickley....and Kneels....and our 2023 1st round pick...

You do realize that the draft is conducted between all 30 teams in the league, not just the Western Conference, right?

I feel like this could be the difference of only 3-10 wins, potentially.

Watch us get Feron Hunt back as the tip.

No way he signs for THAT much, it's close to the Hardaway deal.
We just paid a whole lot of money to a guy that went 9-29 (31%) on FG and 3-20 (15%) 3-pt% in both our win or go home elimination games last couple of playoffs. SMH

With the Clipps and Nuggets returning to full strength along with Memphis taking a leap, I already though we'd sliding down.

Right. And now, the team is basically guaranteed to be less talented.
That doesn't always mean worse, but it's going to be tough.

GPII + Dragic + Wood + motivated Luka could make us sneaky good.

Do you really think they're going to get GPII?
I do not.
