I genuinely like him as a small ball center, though he can easily be a wing as well IMO. I've seen good things about Liddell, so certainly he's a candidate.
When I think about the center position, I don't necessarily want a traditional center, although that would be useful for the regular season. TBH, I get an itch when I see the term "small ball center" because, to me, the definition is so nebulous.
What I really want is someone who would not get run over by the Goberts and Aytons but can balance out the damage done by Looney-type centers. Maybe that's two players though.

What I mean by "small ball center" is that you are playing a center that you know is going to be undersized in most matchups AND you are playing him with the intent to basically switch all screens.

He's 6'5, though. But a hungry shot blocker. Is he even good on defense? I like his 3ball ability and shot blocking...but is he limited to those two things?
Liddell is touted in this forum as a NBA center prospect. I'm incredibly skeptical. I think it is not smart to plan him switching to a position where he will be playing at a significant size handicap, and imo he's certainly not going to be NBA-ready anytime soon if that's the plan. He's much more likely imo to be used as a PF in the NBA, and even there he will be undersized.
As for whether you might want him or any other particular C at 26, I think you have to opt for BPA, given the fact players in the 20s aren't likely to be NBA-ready for a year or two or three. By then, your needs will look different, so might as well just take the guy, whether big, wing, or point, that you feel is most likely to be a regular for you after that time to develop.

I believe they said on LOM that Jovic was now 6'11.... Im intrigued regardless. Elite ball handling at that size is one of the most valuable skills period.

A few thoughts on Liddell from me:
1) I have indeed been pushing him as a "small ball center" candidate. When I use that language I am NOT suggesting him in that role full-time. I classify him as a wing as well. I can imagine him in the long run splitting time between those, similar to Draymond Green.
2) He is undersized as a center (hence the nomenclature of "small ball center"). But I do not think Liddell is undersized as a wing at all. He has NBA ready strength and athleticism (ELITE). That alone makes him immediately play "bigger" than he is. If you have length and no strength it often doesn't matter because you get bumped into a position where you can no longer use your length as an advantage. Liddell will not be "displaced" easily and therefore plays "bigger" than he is.
3) I think Liddell is the perfect candidate for a team wanting to play an "all switching" defense. In that scenario who the "center" is doesn't even matter. Liddell in my opinion fits perfectly into that and is very capable of defending 1-5 (though yes he will be undersized against many 5s, but in an "all switching" defense you are already accepting that fate).

Yes, with shoes he just measured that at the combine....but he just measured 6' 9.5" w/o shoes at the combine as well. All my measurements are without shoes.

I haven't made my decision on Liddell yet. His defensive highlights are great. I saw bits of pieces of a few Ohio State games and was left less impressed....that is probably true for a lot of these prospects.
I know he tested great at the combine but I don't think he plays to that athleticism...especially on offense.
He is certainly an option at 26...may go a little before, but I haven't settled on him as one of my 4-5 candidates.

If the player cannot shoot a basketball, cannot dribble a basketball, does not have AVERAGE finishing at the rim ability(making layups after a little contact) or is not switchable on defense...
Im out.
The player has to have reasonable defense and reasonable offense. I am completely out on one trick ponies. I would not waste draft picks on one trick ponies or offer significant size contract to OTP's. I am ok with adding around the edges with CHEAP limited skill players...but im not drafting OTP's or trading draft assets for OTP's. I dont care if they shoot 43% from half court.

I absolutely would be thrilled getting EJ Liddell. He would be perfect in Dallas. Basically a player who would fill in as a backup to DFS and Bullock or could even play center in a small ball lineup.

Anyone have any thoughts on the two Michigan freshman who stayed in the draft: Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate?
There has been some talk that Houstan have been given a promise as he stayed in the draft and hasn't worked out. There is some talk it may be OKC at pick 30. He had an up and down season but was a former top 10 recruit in some sights. He is not a great athlete but could be a projection as a big 3 and D wing in time. Maybe a Danny Green type player.
Diabate was also a top 15 recruit in some sites. He also had an up and down year. He is a well put together athlete and moves pretty well. He needs a lot of work but could also be a mobile big in time.
The Athletic has both guys in the 50's. ESPN has Houstan in this range but Diabate further down. I really don't know much about either.

Does anyone have any insight on what the actual numbers are of projects that work out in the NBA?
I dont know how significant the skills are that these players need to add to their game or how difficult those skills are to acquire to be NBA playable for decent minutes in a playoff game.
My ultimate question is if there is a formula for how or when to choose a project over the BPA or the tallest LEGIT 2way player on the board?
I just assume you should draft tallest LEGIT 2way player available consistently to accumulate a pipeline of playable players that can be used for your team or are/would/should be considered decent assets in trades to other teams. Obviously you draft BPA of team need in certain cases.
To paint a mental picture...Im drafting 6'5 LEGIT 2way over 6'9 potential almost every time. Then...using that pipeline of playable player for my own team or in a trade for a more "star" player.
Im just officially out on "potential" players that are currently one trick ponies.

Imagine if your SF can dribble and pass.
If you play him at SG, then Luka and him will be the tallest back court in like.. ever.
I'd even move up to get him.

I have just finished rewatching some Arizona games and I need to say that I'm really impressed with Koloko's defense. Really mobile, good/great feel and timing, I think that he would really fit into our defensive system. He had great impact in both games just with his defense.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbwBOau_t0w&t=1344s
Here's the full game against UCLA, he shows his switching ability and his rim protection
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yii8AE8dtt8
I am also impressed with how he managed to contain/stop Wrestle mania champ Kofi. Shows he can guard the stronger guys. He was especially good in the 2nd half.
https://twitter.com/MG_Schindler/status/...4140420100
He still is a project when it comes to his ofense. He needs to add some muscle, but I like his frame and think it shouldn't be a problem. Also am a beliver in his shooting. And let me add that he started playing basketball when he was 15, and he improved every year.

I am with you. Koloko is my favorite traditional big in the draft. I like him much better than Kessler and like him just as much as the highly touted Mark Williams. I think Koloko has the footwork potential to be able to defend on the perimeter.

Being a casual and only watching these videos here and there...
Koloko is intriguing. Length and mobility.
I guess I would be stunned if he goes late FRP. I dont really know his flaws...just watch a few minutes of highlights and he seems to stand out(pass the eye test) by jumping off the screen at you. What I am trying to say is...with all the non-lottery bust talk...it seems like a guy that jumps off the screen at you because of his game impact, plus having crazy measurable and mobility...he would either go higher in the draft or be a safer project pick.
If that makes any sense.
