College basketball starts tonight on ESPN. Kansas vs Michigan State first and then Duke vs Kentucky.
I need to decide if I want to put any energy looking at prospects this year. Maybe I will wait until the end of the season and dive in then. I was looking at Sam Vecenie's big board this morning and it amazing how the majority of the ranked players are 19-20 years old. It makes it even harder evaluating prospects when most are so young and raw.
Anyway, Duke has a center, Mark Williams, who finished strong last year. I don't believe he was a five star recruit, but I will be interested to see how he looks. Vecenie has him at 20. Duke has two freshman in the top 6 (1 and 6). They also have another one, Trevor Keels, who I saw play in high school and am anxious to see how he looks playing in college.

It's funny. I know we have our pick this year but after the 2020 draft, I have no motivation of picking the best prospects since I know the Mavs are going to pass up on them anyways.
With that said, some mid-late prospects that piqued my interest but haven't watched much tape on them are:
AJ Williams, Duke, long 6'7 SF that has shades of Cam Reddish/Kelly Oubre.
Jabari Walker- Quick 6'8 PF with insanely good shooting splits his freshman year
Nikola Jovic- If we can't have big honey, this guy will have to do. Don't know much about him other than I like his name.
14x All-Star, 12x all-NBA, 1x MVP, 1x Finals MVP, 1 NBA Championship: Dirk Nowitzki, the man, the myth, the legend.

But those responsible for traumatizing you are gone: Donnie, RC, and Bob V. Totally different guys now making the call on draft night.

e.
Mark Williams or AJ Griffin? Griffin is suppose to be a high lottery pick but I guess he has had some injuries and coming back slowly. He is the son of former Mav Adrian Griffin.

If you like Mark Williams from Duke, Tankathon has him at #29 and the Mavs at #28 today. However, I think the Mavs listing will change bigtime after tonight's game.
Any other ex-mav's kids out there playing bball somewhere other then Gary Trent Jr and AJ Griffin?

Did they fire the whole scouting department, cause they should (have)?!

Not sure, but the decision makers have all changed. So who knows what lies ahead.

It is going to be tough for me to get a good impression on the freshman this year due to time constraints. I was impressed with Trevor Keels at Duke and can picture that bowling ball next to Luka.
As far as two upperclassman goes, UCLA has two Johnny Juzang was excellent during their tournament run and he looked good last night. Just looks like a guy who kills it from midrange and can create off the dribble to get to his spots. Jaime Jaquez also is very intriguing. Looks to be a tough kid who can also create a little.
Tonight Gonzaga plays Texas that should be interesting. Chet Holmgren may be one of the most unique prospects we have seen in a long time. Maybe Zion, but you don't see many people Holmgren's size and weight that are able to play the way he does.

Any draft experts there? Which players we should be targeting and expecting?
Can Adrian Griffin falls to around 20?
Also interested to hear some comparisons for a players like:
Matthew Cleveland
Dyson Daniels
Bennedict Mathurin
TyTy Washington
Kendall Brown

I don't think this is a highly rated draft prospect and maybe he isn't even an NBA player, but I want to get a closer look at Purdue sophomore 7'4 center Zach Edey. He is huge. Looks like he has good hands and a good touch. The key is can he move well enough?

For a good game to watch, Michigan has a 7'2 sophomore center named Hunter Dickerson. He looks like he has a small wingspan to me so he doesn't block many shots. But he too is skilled and has sort of a nasty streak.
Again, maybe not top tier prospects but guys who are intriguing.

I watched a little of Purdue yesterday and got my first look at Edey. He is going to cause a lot of trouble for college teams this year. He is huge and has nice skills. Purdue has another big beefy guy who is also pretty good. With that being said, I don't think he moves well enough to be a pro yet. He should probably stay in college a little while longer. Although they said he has only played basketball since he was a soph in HS.
The guy that really stuck out to me is Jaden Ivey from Purdue. He is not the same level of prospect as Ja Morant but sort of moves similar. I have seen him as a mid first round pick. He is not a good shooter but man is he athletic.

Michigan also has a young 6'11 guy who looks to be a potential first round pick. Someone to keep your eye on. coming off the bench.

lastly, Baylor has a young freshman who looks really skilled and probably the best of the Baylor prospects.

Jaden Ivey...
Not saying he will work out in the NBA...you have to be able to shoot decently...but at least that kid has a feel for the game.
Mavs need more players like that.
That was only a 1 and a half minute clip against maybe questionable talented team...but he seems gifted around the basket offensively. Love how he can adjust his body after contact MID-AIR and still score.
But...I dont know about his dribbles, defense, shooting, willingness to rebound or IQ from just that video.
I think Mavs need a player that is not uncomfortable with the ball around traffic(Ivey seems to not be a deer in headlights around traffic). We have KP, Maxi, DFS and THJ whom are all questionable when they put the ball on the floor in traffic or when guarded closely.

I can't comment much about him but he also had a good game against North Carolina yesterday.
His mom is the women's coach at Notre Dame too.

Really great college game last night between Duke and Gonzaga. A lot of times, a game at a remote location can feel a little dull. The atmosphere in the arena last night was electric and the game was really great. I use to be a huge college fan, but have found the game a little to watch the last 10-15 years and have watched almost exclusively NBA games until the tournament starts. Last nights game was really well played though.

He has been mentioned in this post before, but Mark Williams is a guy to watch. His best basketball is ahead of him. He may be just scratching the surface of his potential.

Or we could draft Trevor Keels and have the THICC backcourt. Wendell Moore from Duke also looks much improved this year. Strawther from Gonzaga also looked really good.
Duke won last night, but I think Gonzaga may be the best team as the season progresses.

Don't know if this guy is a serious NBA prospect, but who doesn't like a fat man dominating college basketball?

Mavs Analytics have abandoned the "back to the basket" style of play. I guess because of efficiency. But as you can see...this kids offensive moves in the paint is exactly the type of player Mavs need.
I get that he probably doesnt stretch the floor...what I am suggesting is we need a guy with this kids similar offensive skills around the basket in a PF/C. Obviously you want one that can shoot the three as well.
Mavs lack a big that is coordinated.
