If Wash likes KP…. Which we did get that report at the Trade Deadline they were “Monitoring”… then KP, Brunson, Green, Kleber, DFS, 2 1st and 2 pick swaps for Beal, Bertans is not an inconceivable trade
Wash gets KP, 2 young players, 2 guys they can flip for 1sts, 2 unprotected 1sts, 2 pick swaps, and gets off Bertans 16 mill for the next 4 years.
Question is, are we willing to do this?

If Washington wants to trade for KP they are making a win now move. Meaning that they would try to add him to a core of Beal+Westbrook.

Beal’s reportedly about to request a trade. They are looking to offload Russ already. They very much are already in rebuilding mode.

I think his point is: in that case, they probably won't want KP.

True. It’s all speculative. They’ll have to take back someone’s salary regardless though. KP is really just the salary filler and maybe they believe in his talent. Any GS trade would include Wiggins as well.

Whoever is thinking about Mavs trade for a super star, there is no rational and realistic way to do it, sorry. Just look at the packages some rivals can offer:
Salary match:
GSW: Wiggins
Phi: Hill, Green SnT, Curry
NY: none needed (cap space)
Dal: none needed (cap space), we could throw in positive contracts like DFS or Kleber for them to flip at TDL - this is actually an advantage over GSW and Philly
Young players:
GSW: Wiseman (2nd pick), Paschal
Phi: Maxey, Thybulle (all NBA defender!)
NY: Toppin (lottery pick), Quickley, Knox, Robinson
Dal: Brunson, Green (all three opponents have guys with much higher ceiling)
Picks:
GSW: #7, #14, future picks
Phi: all future picks
NY: all future picks, Dallas 2023 pick
Dal: (optimistic) 2025 and 2027 FRP

Let me get extremely creative to compile a package for Beal.
Trade 1: take Favors in cap space for #30
Trade 2: DFS to OKC for their worst FRP in 2023 and Jerome or Williams (if OKC doesn't bite, I would try NO)
This makes our Beal offer (actually not bad offer, if 1 and 2 works):
Powell, Brunson, unprotected FRP in 2022, 2024 and 2026
GSW can do:
Wiggins, Wiseman, #7, unprotected 2022 (or #14 if they prefer) and additional pick in 2026 if Memphis lifts protection
Mavs lineup would be (we would also have to sell to Beal Mavs can be legit contenders)
Luka, Burke
Beal, Green
big hole
big hole
KP, Favors
#30, rMLE to cover the big holes. It could be a difficult sell to Beal that this team is legit contender.

Kawhi is much more likely than Beal.

I forgot I didn't trade Maxi, so the hole at PF is not big. Easier sell

Beal is possible in a 3-way.
Mavs receive: Beal, T.Ross and the least favorable of Magic's 2023 #1's
Wizards receive: Mo Bamba, Brunson, Jalen Green, Ty Terry, #8 and #33 picks in 2021, Mavs 1st's in 2022, 2024 and pick swap options in 2023 (which is really with Bulls/Magic) and 2025
Magic receive: KP, #15 pick in 2021
Mavs could still conceivably get KLaw via a THJ, JRich, Powell/Kleiber deal if Kawaii he plays hardball
Mavs would then have full MLE to figure out the C spot
A Beal and Leonard combo is the kind of insider trading get I think Nico was brought here for.

Mavs owe NY 2021 and 2023 FRPs (2023 is Top 10 protected through 2025, otherwise 2025 SRP).

They would get a 2023 from orlando in his proposed trade

Great interview with Kidd there.
He's really developed as a speaker too. I remember when he couldn't get through an interview with a couple of major fumbles.
Made some good points too. Getting his props from Giannis was nice. Don't shoot!
Sounds like he's committed to try and make Luka/KP a real thing.
Searching for the NY Unicorn.

NY version of KP played almost exclusively at PF
NBA game has changed since then. You have to be able to go small or punish opponent when they do. Preferably both.
Kidd wants to dramatically improve the D…not just bring in Iwundu and draft a late first rookie with a defensive reputation.
Does that combination of things lead you to prioritize C (Holmes seems quite available) or PF (Collins is much less of a sure thing) as one of the two major pieces I hope we sign this offseason (the other being another creator who defends well)?

Last year Powell played with KP (KP as a PF) and his D was closer to what he did in NY. This year with Maxi (KP as C) KP's D was much less than desired. What does that info tell you as well?

When KP and Powell play together, KP is the center on defense and Powell is the center on offense. You do not want Powell protecting the rim. It's the same when Powell/Maxi play together. The KP/Maxi did not work this time because KP lost so much mobility (it didn't help that Maxi was having a down year and also is probably better suited to backup small ball 5). Playing him on the perimeter is not going to help the problem (it will exacerbate it). Either KP needs to get his previous mobility back, or there is no hope for having a good defense with him on the floor and he must be moved at all costs.

Did anybody really check this "mobility lost" other than "eye test".
I know all his defensive metrics are worse this year, but he seems just more hesitant than hampered to me. His timing seems oddly off and he is not at the right place to begin with.
Also the whole defence seemed totally on-off no matter who was playing.
