It seems like the Mavs really like having Kyrie Irving and Naji Marshall around.  (even though they might not fit the Flagg timeline)

What is your point?  Flagg shooting issues and dominance in the paint is why you want a forward who can shoot.  Unless you are suggesting we should trade Flagg?

We can complain about Naji’s shooting, but it’s not really that bad. And if we’re fair, we should be complaining even more about Cooper’s, although nobody is.

I prefer to see it as a double threat: two guys with size who can handle the ball and relentlessly drive to the hoop. This puts incredible pressure on a defense. 

So they shoot 30% instead of 35% from three. On average, less than 1 point per game difference. I can live with that, if I’m generating the kind of production around the hoop that they both do.

That's not how it works.  Teams can sag off Naji because they don't mind him taking 3's.  That clogs up the paint for Flagg.  Flagg would be better served next to guys who demand guarding at the perimeter, giving him more space to operate.  

Nobody is complaining about Flagg shooting because he is the youngest player in the NBA and already awesome.  Rookies generally struggle from 3 in their first year and the hope is that he will improve (given his work ethic and skill, its likely).  We are building this team around Flagg, not Naji Marshall.

Naji has value, but to play him WITH Cooper, he needs to hit 3s to open the floor. Even if CF gets better at 3s, you want the floor spaced for all the things he can do. This season, with a lost year, it's not a worry that there's no spacing. But it will be, and hopefully soon.

Naji makes a great backup for CF, someone who can get you a basket when the main scorers are getting a break. But he needs to get better on 3s so he can play more. Or, go.

How about Cooper + filler for JJJ or Markkanen + (what?)? 

- Kyrie/Nembhard/BWill, Christie/Klay, PJW/Naji, JJJ or Lauri, AD/Lively or Gafford
- Trade Gafford or Lively for another quality SG.

I was just looking at the salary chart on Sportrac. Looks like the trade puts DAL at roughly $196.2M total, $41.6M over the cap, $10.5M under A1 and $22.4 under A2. 

But it looks to open waaay up once this season is over.

Spotrac was a mixed bag for a while - they still had AD on the Mavs list. But now that it's updated, they show Mavs at 180+M (7.6M below the tax line) right now.

In the wake of today's trade...honestly, doesn't it kind of feel like we have permission to get more excited about this? I can't quite figure out why, but it feels that way for me.
