Dirk Nowitzki rules out becoming the Mavericks next GM

“I always thought that when I retired, I'd immediately move into management with the Mavericks. However the longer I was out of the business after my playing career ended, the less interesting it became to me.”

(Via @SInow)

I don't see him as a GM now.  I also wouldn't want him to be a GM in the future.  I would hate to see him bad at it.   GM is a tough job and with youngish kids he is probably looking for something with more freedom now.

Ideally, I would love to see him replace Cuban as a voice in the room.  I think he would take a more level headed approach and probably has a much better feel for talent than Cuban.   He would probably be much easier to deal with too.

Dirk would be the same mistake as Kidd.  We don't need a former player/coach who has no front office experience.  We need somebody that actually knows what they are doing, especially considering they have such an inexperienced owner.
