I would need a LOT of unprotected first round picks.

On the plus side he is a Dallas kid and a former top 5 recruit.  I just have a biased against the g league guys.  It seems like they miss something.  Not sure what but the structure of college must be really important.  The whole non shooting thing scares me too.

I'd want from Detroit:

Tobias Harris, Isaiah Stewart, Jaden Ivey, Ron Holland, 2027 1st unprotected, 2028 swap, 2029 1st unprotected

for

AD, Martin, Hardy and Exum

This trade makes them the overwhelming East favorite. This is my baseline if I'm Dallas because let's be honest about the return:
Ivey - a young, very injury prone player with upside
Stewart - a solid rotational big
Holland - a former top pick who is unproven
Harris - expiring salary dump
The draft picks are most likely in the mid-20s

I don't think this is a big ask relative to where it puts Detroit

And I position the picks exactly this way because I don't want this season's glorified 2nd round pick. Plus, by staggering them like this, the 2028 OKC swap essentially just becomes another Detroit pick in consecutive drafts.

I don't understand why we would give up any draft capital now for any player? Is Mathurin going to be around in 3 years when we (hopefully) are over the rebuild?

Cooper Flagg was asked about his alma mater Duke winning the ACC title. I followed up & asked if he had an NFL team:

"I was a Patriots fan growing up just 'cause that's the closest one to Maine, but I'm not a huge football fan in general."

No Cowboys?

"I'm a Cowboys fan now."

That's like stealing. No way I do that trade if I'm Detroit. Giving up two 1st's, Beef Stew, Ivey, Holland, and Harris? For basically just AD. Martin, Hardy and Exum are nothing special. You are overrating those players. I don't think they need AD personally. They already are a good young team, and AD wouldn’t make them a title contender. You can't trust his reliability, his age and he makes too much money. They're not trading Stewart, he's tough and plays good D and is a very important core of the team.

Everyone has their flaws.

Mavs play the Pistons in a week, AD needs to destroy them to build up his value. Pistons have had a very soft schedule, really doubt they're as good as their seed right now. They should start falling and could feel the pressure to make a move once they see that they're not as good as they think they are closer to the TDL.

Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II will undergo season-ending right foot procedure to address lingering discomfort, sources tell me and Tim MacMahon. Lively, who played 7 games this season, is expected to make a full recovery.

Sad start to his career. Super talented, but can't seem to stay healthy.  I feel for him. I hope he can maintain good health going forward.

I hope its a "full" recovery.

If we trade Gafford and AD, we might be looking at extended minutes for Cisse. Either that, or Dwight Powell has a marvelous ending to his career.

This might be the leverage that Dwight can use to get a big extension!

that just really sucks.   Feel bad for him.  Something did not seem right though this year.  The limited minutes and being extra careful with him in preseason to start the year.  I got a bad feeling.   I would like to learn more if this was more ineptness from our training staff.  I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt now that they were just being super careful and then pulled him when the leg did not progress.   I do think Lively has a ton of beef with Nico and the previous training staff.   They could have ruined his career.   Hope he can recover fully.

Decent chance we get a center in an AD trade (Stewart from Detroit or Okongwu from Atlanta).

I know. My nightmare is KP without Okongwu.

Then unlike Nico, I simply say, "Okay, no deal."

Nembhard and waive Exum?????

Dallas will be eligible to apply for a $2,626,680 Disabled Player Exception for Lively II.
If granted, Dallas could sign/trade for a player with 1 year left on their contract.
They would however need to have an open roster spot and fit the salary below the 2nd apron.
