Cuban's current net worth is ~$6B. That includes selling a majority share of the Mavs to Adelson & Co. for $3.5B. Even so, his money was not enough to keep up with the top NBA owners. His big income was from selling Broadcast.com and the Mavs and he's been known to complain about the cost of being in the playoffs during the Dirk years.
That said, he definitely loved winning and it's hard to argue with his passion. But the "dry powder" philosophy definitely hurt for a few years.

Cuban back in the fold just means Cooper will get the same wheel spinning approach to team build that Dirk and Luka experienced.

I disagree. I'm not saying that I think Cuban being in the mix will be a good thing, but rather that I don't think Cuban has gained (or will acquire) real power to decide what the Mavs do to any significant degree.
IOW I don't think he will be feeding potential moves to Dumont or anyone else, much less be involved in how they might be executed. Nor do I think anyone will be answering to him.
At the most, I think he will be informed and might act as a safety brake, perhaps, if something insane is proposed.
* Dumont reportedly "has no problem going into next year with a healthy AD and a healthy Kyrie with Cooper Flagg and seeing what it looks like."

If the Mavs can ever get good again, will these owners pay the Luxury Tax? Something Cuban hated to do. I believe we will be paying it this season with a terrible team.

The stupid Grimes trade put them in the luxury, so they were willing to do it when they thought they were good.

Nico is still failing. That was yet another stupid move.

Holy geez, what a colossal disaster. I didn't think O-Max was going to get an opportunity here this year, so I was ok with cutting him for Exum, but honestly where they are now, I think there's a chance a forward will get removed and they'll end the season in "play every young guy on the roster" mode. If so, I'll wish he was still here at that point.
How could they not have seen this coming?

It’s accountability time now that another Nico move has blown up in the Mavs face. It was an obvious mistake to me at the time, and I hated it more the more I thought about it. Too bad the Mavs can’t fire Nico two, three, even four times. He is certainly the worst GM I’ve seen in any sport in my entire life.

Can the Mavs wave Exam and still get injury compensation to bring in someone else?

Yes, but the return is less than his salary I think. You wouldn't be getting much. Elevating Nembhard is probably a better idea in my opinion.

I just don't think they cared about that aspect of roster construction considering they traded for one of the most oft injured stars in the league and extended Kyrie in the middle of his rehab that serious knee injury.
The O'Max thing doesn't really bother me. I was high on his measurables and motor, but he plays like a dog that finally caught the car he was chasing.

Except that we will be paying Omax cap hit for next three years (just like we are still paying for the McGee contract).

Not sure they can because they are hard capped at 2nd apron.

That Exum news is deflating. Injury is always a concern with him, but if healthy he would have gotten rotation minutes imo. I just don’t think his body is built for nba minutes.
The question is did Nico do due process with him having a procedure this summer? Or is it another mistake?

It took this long to decide this? Do the Mavs even have a physical therapy team? A competent team? A doctor? A grade school nurse?

Kidd clearly is not a fan either. My guess is that at a minimum he and Klay are traded by the deadline. I just hope they get a reasonably competent PG replacement for Flagg's sake.
