Christian Wood is balling as well
I sure as hell hope that the Mavericks do not fuck over Luka and his career like they did Dirk. We have lost 2 years of adding supreme talent to this team.
The Mavericks may have also fucked up in the draft although we will have to see how patient they are with letting the development of the young guys play out.

I get that but on the surface and for this season we have to examine the success of Delon Wright vs. Trey Burke to get a feel for our decision making. i am not disputing anything you are saying. I know it was a mutual parting of the ways but if guys show a trend of leaving and being better elsewhere its time to start asking the question are we making the right personnel decisions.
So far I am underwhelmed with what we have and feel the Mavericks over value their guys far too much. Just my opinion but not looking to argue about it.

Sun's lost to the Kings. Of course the Sun's bench does nothing against the Kings and the rest of the NBA but seem to torch the Mavs when they play them.

I am imagining a THJ for Dipo trade as a base.
Healthy Oladipo is huge upgrade on JRich and it isn't even close, and I am not even a fan of Victor.
Saying it is a lateral move is sort of insulting to Oladipo IMO.
JRich is a role player, glue guy at best. Good one for that, but Oladipo was the best player in play-off team before, a former All Star and All NBA player all while being a year and four months older that JRich.
Honestly, I think JRich is becoming a bit overrated in this board, I would trade him in heartbeat if we are getting health Oladipo.

Spurs, Kings and Wolves with unexpected 2-0 starts. If 1-2 of those are actually good, we are in trouble.

I agree I think we have a tendency to do that when a guy is better than the current options we have vs. comparing them to what could be available through free agency and trade.
I agree if the ask is for Rich in return to get Dipo you do the trade as long as you get the commitment from Dipo to signing the extension.
My issue with J Rich is what type of contract is he going to ask for.
I would much rather set my sights on Lavine or Hield because they are both under contract if I am looking to move Richardson.
1. Zach Lavine
2. Buddy Hield
3. Victor Oladipo
I think if we are being realistic we have to assume that a team is not going to give us one of those 3 for Hardaway Jr. Hardaway is going to have to be swapped for a bad contract I am afraid.

If you start Dipo+JRich+Luka+KP....what kind of 4th player fits best?
I think yes. I think no. I think yes.
The 4th player can be by committee. Either DFS if we go small or Powell/Kleber if we go bigger.

Nuggets of to 0-2 start. What if they suck... OKC up to 1-0. What if they are good...

OMG. You are just a well of positivity. Wright was also -23, worst on the team, Sexton scored 32 against him and Detroit lost to freaking Cleveland...

I am not trying to be but I am just trying to be a realest. Two off seasons and all we have to show for them is James Johnson, Josh Richardson, and Trey Burke. You have to ask yourself if we are making good quality sound decisions.
If Delon was a bad fit and excels in Detroit then fine but you do have to step back and ask yourself why didn't it work out for us. You cannot keep throwing shit against the wall and hoping that it sticks.
I get the impression that we are doing that. In no world should any team trying to make the playoffs be starting Dwight Powell at Center. The fact that we are not aware of how bad his limitations are is alarming to me. Even if they are aware but why keep running him out there at the detriment of the team.
Again I am not trying to be negative I am just being a realest and asking elephant in the room type of questions.

Detroit is a bad team, Delon Wright can play for them because someone has to score on bad teams.

Side note: James Harden is an offensive savant. What he was doing to Portland last night was sick...and doing it totally out of shape and heavy.
That being said, I wouldn't trade for that guy for anything. He showed everything right and wrong with him last night.
Right: Can absolutely fill it up and is virtually unstoppable. Clearly ridiculous....you know exactly what he's doing and you still can't stop it.
Wrong: Is selfish and all about himself. He drives with the game on the line last night, blows the pass and then blames PJ Tucker (and this after he drove and lost the ball away at the end of reg). The look on Tucker's face as Harden walked away says it all...Tucker plays harder than just about anyone, and does more with what he has than anybody on that team, and for James to blame him at the end was so wrong and why he couldn't lead a team out of a Walmart much less to the ring.

I watched some of Wright preseason and he didn't look bad. I think he is just in a better spot. Maybe he can grow into some of the potential he showed in Detroit.
Wood is awesome. Holy crap WTF is Detroit doing not locking him up? I kept seeing ppl go nuts for Wood on these boards and I hadn't really watched him play much. That guy has some offensive skill. Now he's on the Rockets which is a great fit for him (at least for the time being with Harden still on the squad). That contract is going to look amazing.

This is what I was worried about.
If the plan 2021 haters want to point to anything the Mavs missed out on along the way, I think Christian Wood might be it.
EDIT: we know he was on the Mavs’ radar, because Fish was talking about him nonstop. I honestly wonder if he’d have been a bigger target if Giannis had signed at the beginning of the off-season rather than the end.

What you are all forgetting is it was Wood who made the decision. Perhaps he just wanted to play for Houston and didn't want to stay in Detroit or anywhere else. You don't know if Mavs were trying to bring him or not.

We do know the Mavs had at least a little interest, because someone from there was mentioning him consistently to Fish.
We also know that the contract left room for a bigger offer, and that Delon Wright ended up in Detroit.
Ultimately, we don’t know whether a bigger offer from Dallas would’ve made a difference, or if Wood simply wanted to play in Houston, for some reason. I have a tough time imagining Houston was his first choice, given what has been going on with that team since the bubble, but it’s possible.

Houston also rewarded Detroit with #16 pick for their trouble in helping with SnT

Oh, totally. But, as you said, Wood had to make the decision to sign the contract, so I’m pretty sure #18 would’ve been sufficient motivation for them, too.
I’m not trying to kill the Mavs over a deal that wasn’t made (I hate that mentality), I’m just pointing to one of the only ones that I, personally, feel they POSSIBLY might’ve had a chance to make and could regret not making.

No we dont.
You might very well be right that we'll regret not signing Wood.
But Fish doesnt count as a source.
