In that case KP might be a better fit as team player then Simmons. At least KP has shown to be good in playoffs one season until he left out with injury. I'd still prefer injury risk rather than serious team related personal issues. Hope really we go with a safe pick that will fit with Luka and Brunson, our two young stars.

I'm not sure I want Simmons here (also not sure that I don't).
But I do think it's refreshing to see an NBA player on another team mention Dallas as a preferred destination outside of a free agent using Dallas' cap space as leverage.
Also, if true, that seems to contradict the "wants his own team" narrative since this team is already spoken for in that department.

I'd be concerned if we were giving up someone special in their own way but no I see little risk here.
Either it works and we end up in the Finals a few times, or we end up at basically the same place we would have continuing this route

Some of your concerns are quite valid.
But, IF it's true that he has identified Dallas as a place he wants to be, there's literally no chance he expects to play PG here.

Man, if we move KP then we don't have to worry about the "protect KP" big anymore. We could just play the lineups that make the most basketball sense.

Time. Reality. Watching guys like KP who used to be just as frustrated as he is flourish under Kidd. Appreciating what he knows he can bring to Dallas. The original quote being more about being tired of the Embiid-based system than anything else.
If the new rumor is true, there could be lots of reasons that old narratives no longer apply.

How would we get Simmons without giving up basically everything we have? In order to get anywhere close to the value Philly is seeking we'd likely have to involve at least two of Brunson, DFS, or Josh Green. To match salaries we'd probably need to throw in KP. I can't see them taking THJ and Powell back without Brunson, DFS, and picks. This would be a ridiculously risky trade that would sacrifice every asset we have left.

Agree. Dont add players not fitting with Luka and that are high risk. Go all in for Sabonis, fully safe and great fit.
I really hope not we add Simmons!

True it does blow through all of our assets, but I'm more looking at what Simmons' value would have been at this point last year
It would have taken a truly special talent like Lilliard or someone who was just recently picked at the top of draft
Someone that it would actually hurt to give up.
He's by far the most talented guy we could realistically get with what we have to offer

Sure if they'd do KP for Simmons straight up. But considering the value Philly has been seeking I think it would be KP, Brunson, and DFS at minimum. Woj just said today that names like Harrison Barnes, Domantas Sabonis, and John Collins aren't moving the needle for them. Would you be happy with a Luka, Simmons, and THJ core? I'll pass personally. I'd prefer to let Simmons go kill the spacing and shrink in the playoffs for another team.

I could imagine Kidd using Simons as a small 5 ball, on offense ... he can catch balloons and is an excellent passer..in defense KP is in charge of rim protection and Simons of locking in the rival star..add up a pair of shooters 40% 3 to the equation and it looks pretty scary

That's the scenario I like (Simmons playing center, but with KP outgoing). How about our center and secondary ball handler all in one package?

I get that Sabonis is great on offense but his defensive fit is just as questionable as Simmons fit on offense. Center is the most important defensive position and Sabonis is just really bad on defense. Cannot guard in space. Cannot protect the rim. Like having last seasons version of KP without the occasional block.

I am terrified that Simmons wants to be in Dallas.
Mostly because if he gets here and still exhibits the same issues (which he most likely will), and the Mavs have to kowtow to protect his image, he will be the most untradeable asset in the league. No one will want to touch him with a 10ft pole and if they do it's because the Mavs are throwing assets into the pile.

Its interesting to think what Simmons would do to this roster.
We have Powell/Chriss/Brown/WCS/Boban as non shooting bigs, none of which would make sense on the court with Simmons. That means like 12 minutes a game split between these folks.
Maxi becomes hugely important, but we know he can't hold up under big minutes. We would want at least one more rim protecting shooting big.
Guys like THJ and Bullock become more important as we need shooting.
A lot of folks want to ship out KP because they don't like his fit with Luka. I am really curious how the Luka/Simmons fit is going to be better?

Simmons is not a rim protector. As good as he is at defense, I think you take away a lot of that value if you make him a center.
