I did love when Sasser climbed into a guard's jersey when defending him last night, but size can be important.
Speaking of defense, you see how many poke aways Kyrie had last night?
(Yesterday, 02:14 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Yeah, I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying that his minutes at the 2 seem (to me) to be increasing/decreasing based on the desire/need to get more ball-handling in the game. I guess you could make the point that ZR is preventing Christie from sliding down to the 3 in some sort of 3-guard lineup.
Speaking of that, May threw a 3-ball-handler lineup out there for a few minutes against Miami and I was giddy. Loved it!
I also like that May will just stick with a lineup if it is working no matter who is out there and he plays so much of the bench and no one has been disappointing save for Rez which is forgivable. It makes me wonder what could have happened with past rookies like Josh Green had May been here.

And two blocks if I recall.

You can call it whatever you want. Both are Wings and have been compared or talked about as a pair even before game 1. Not trying to get into the weeds on positions again.

If the Mavs’ record is anywhere above .500 as the trade deadline approaches - and I believe it will be - I think it’s extremely safe to say that Kai isn’t going anywhere.
I understand the rationales and proposed benefits of moving Kyrie. I understand that other teams don’t get what M&M are thinking and doing with regard to him, are presuming he *has* to be dealt, and are trying to assemble packages for him and will be active with that as the trade deadline approaches. I think it’s evident that, unless something catastrophic happens, and/or unless Kyrie says he wants out (which looks inconceivable right now, tbh), *and* unless the return is Walter Paytonesque, he will not be dealt this year.

I didn't even realize that but you are correct. I was screaming cookies all night to much chagrin of my dog.

I was actually thinking about buying a Kyrie jersey this morning which would be the kiss of death. Careful on your prediction.

I don't like that Clayton has already played in near 10% of his available games, and only one of those did he do it without Kyrie available.
I don't want to have a forced trade/waiver to open a slot...

Position weeds aside, I would assertively state that they’re completely different players with completely different skill sets and that it was daft of anyone, no matter how basketball intelligent otherwise, to group them like that.

Sergio’s injury pretty well necessitated that, and arguably Naji’s as well.
I’m fairly confident that our wizards in the front office have a good plan to open up a roster space.

I have faith... but I also know that when your trade partners can see you have to make the deal the price goes up.

Not that I want to trade him, but post Dec. 15th, Cisse to the Knicks seems like a simple path should we need to open up a spot.

Maybe that’s where Lively comes into play? IF healthy there is even less room for Cisse…
The Clayton contract issue wont have to be addresses for quite a while
He has been super impressive. Just really good smart guard play from him which is really saying something given that he is almost still a rookie himself

Neither are Guards. That's all it's about. Of course they have different skill sets. So do Coop and Martin, but both are Wings.

K. I think Max is absolutely a guard. Not a point guard, but a guard. Guards other guards and has a bit of ball handling skill. He’s definitely a guard in terms of Masai’s team-building schema.

Oh. That explains the disconnect then.

Black is an interesting name, but given Suggs injury history (and horrific contract) its hard to imagine the Mavs being particularly excited to give up their 2nd best player for that haul.
I think ORL has a bigger question to answer between Banchero and Wagner. Obvious that pair doesnt really work and neither are really a true #1. Wagner was always on my dream list.
Now would we be interested in giving up a Kyrie for Wagner swap? Talent wise it feels about even, but it's hard to imagine this team getting better losing Kyrie. His vet leadership is sorely needed. Cooper is the engine but he needs to learn still how to control a locker room and that's hard to do at 20 years old.

I don't see any real net benefit to having Wagner. Good player, but bad fit. Wrong position (he doesn't address a position of need), his skill set looks like a clunky spacing fit (he's a mid-range player, with no real ability to stretch the floor). His 45M aav salary would be a MAJOR allocation, making a problematic payroll fit. Mavs have a better guy to build around (Flagg) at major salary ahead at the same general position. HARD pass.
Their target should be Halliburton-type player. That's the running mate CF needs. Get a significant upgrade from the Kyrie, Larry, Sasser, Clayton set of PGs. If not, not helpful imo.

Do any of you think Sasser may be sacrificed for Clayton Jr.? They have a PG surplus, don't they?

To me, they are one Kyrie injury away from a shortage. I'm not at all certain Sergio gets a lot of court time. I keep them both.

I don't think so. I don't think the Mavs need to make a decision now, but if Clayton continues to play well and demand minutes I think Cisse and Tarik would be the prime candidates to get rid of after the all star break. Cisse in a trade/release. If Tarik is getting now playing time, maybe he quietly goes back to Europe. Who knows though. Maybe Tarik proves valuable as a slightly worse shooting Caleb. Those guys are hard to find.
