A first? I don't think they have any interest in trading Caruso. They both went for the MLE in the same year and I really wanted Caruso. I don't know if they even tried for him (maybe they thought he was redundant with Brunson) but too bad we didn't go that route.

Turner is much more valuable than Wood...I would make that deal without blinking an eye...Turner is an elite defender, I would add FRP if that's all it takes...his problem is that he regularly gets hurt if the medical service gives the go-ahead ..do it

This thread started from an article suggesting Indy may not be able to get a first for Turner, so no reason to send both Wood and a first. I think Indy might seriously consider that trade straight up (maybe add Frank to make salary match). Wood will be cheaper and healthier, and he is a Carlisle offensive wet dream.

I have to admit I didn't read the article, so correct me if I am wrong. Turner is pretty much in power where he can be traded. If that team (Lakers?) has cap space next season, they can just wait for half a season to get him for free, they don't need to spend a fortune for him. For everyone else, Turner is a half year rental. Perhaps some contender will pay a FRP for that half a year because he could be the missing piece of their puzzle. Other than that there won't be much market for him. Things could improve for Indy if Turner has a shortlist of a couple of teams and they are willing to have a bidding war for his services and bird rights.

I think Wood is the better offensive fit, but if the Mavs feel he can't anchor a defense then I wouldn't hesitate to move him straight up for Turner. I think the odds to re-sign him are pretty good since he's a Dallas native. Unless Cuban cheaps out again to save on tax.

Can Turner defend out on the perimeter? I feel like he really straddles the line of old school lumbering bigs that I would not invest in ever and the new age Bam Adebayo and Robert Williams of the world who can bang inside but also switch on everything.
Also, with the lack of team with cap space (as of right now), couldn't the Pacers continue to negotiate through the deadline and if they can't figure it out just do a sign and trade this summer?
I would definitely flip Wood for Turner but how about reuniting Powell with Rick along with a 2028 protected first? Turner/Wood/Maxi would be a pretty nice frontcourt rotation.

I thought they'd pop more too but do want to point out that he is grabbing nearly a rebound and a half more since his last full year with Sabonis so feels like there has been some small improvement there numbers wise.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he still has a home in the area. I remember seeing him courtside at some of our playoff games last year so I think he still is fond of Dallas.

I can't really provide evidence to support this, but if it comes down to "which one can the Mavs lock in, financially", and it should, then I really think Wood is the guy from that angle.
Well, the evidence to the contrary is that Turner is from the DFW area, went to college at UT, and before the last trade deadline wore a cowboy hat and boots to a Mavs game. He has never been subtle about his affinity for Dallas.

Turner also spends his offseasons in Dallas playing with stragglers from the team still in the area. I do get the same sense as KL said in that I think he’s closer to Smart who grew up here too but said it would be a distraction to come back.
Also, I can’t get past all the foot injuries for a big man.

I think Turner is the easier player to build around as he is a stretch big who can anchor a defense. Wood probably needs an above average defender who can help with rim protection at the next position down (whether you call that a big, or a wing).

But CAN he?
Genuine question. Can he REALLY anchor a defense, especially in a playoff setting?

I am also very curious about this. If you can't guard on the perimeter then you aren't a great option at center in 2023.

This has been the first relatively healthy season he’s had since that rash of injuries (which in all honesty, my belief is that he didn’t really rush back from them cause of his undesired situation in Ind), and large time off for foot related injuries. He was slso a very mobile defender before, haven’t really watched him much lately though.

IND's D gives up 114.2 pts per 100 possessions and the Mavs 114.9 pts.
And MT doesn't have to deal with Luka not getting back on D.

He looks plodding and lumbering to me at this stage.

How many centers can actually do this though? I've been on board with the no lumbering bigs idea for a while, but I think it's become a bit of a meme at this point. Most teams don't have a unicorn center who can switch everything. Maxi is the closest thing the Mavs have and we've already seen that he can't do it by himself.
I don't think they can afford to take a unicorn or nothing approach. Playing some drop coverage (which they already do) or hedging screens (which they need to do more) isn't the end of the world. I even saw Bam playing drop against Dallas the other day.

The current level of play could be that his injuries have slowed him down, or, he’s still getting back to where he was after missing so much time. Time will tell on that. In the meantime, he’s having his most efficient shooting year and best rebounding. He’s down on blocks, but give me 2.4 bpg coming from a guy shooting 40% on 4 attempts at 3pt range.

Wood shoots more 3pts at almost the same percentage . Wood has a much better rebounding rate (. Wood plays more on the perimeter.
Most important...
Woods is 2" shorter (6'9" vs 6'11") and 36lbs lighter (214lbs vs 250lbs)... while only being an inch shorter in wing span (7'3" vs 7'4""). Turner is MUCH more lumbering, old school big.
Contracts...
Turner is looking for around $35million/year. Wood will get $19.25million/year.
I just think this would be a foolish trade. Again, stick with your foundation of Luka/Wood/Din and build around that.

I think it's more than you realize. Not like "switch on every player in the league" but the ability to just hold your own and not get burned EVERY time when you get iso'd up top.
All 4 conference finals teams last year had them available. Most teams are trying to find that luxury of getting the someone like Steven Adams to help you through 82 games but then when it matters in the playoffs he doesn't play at all and you use a Jaren Jackson to play smaller.
I'm not saying that everyone is Bam Adebayo but you want to be closer to that end of the spectrum than the Jusuf Nurkic's of the world. I just legitimately don't know where Myles Turner falls on that spectrum. Him and Ayton are the two that I can't quite pin down in this discussion when you look around the league.

I'm out if this is the price tag but I would bet good money he doesn't sniff this number.

Regarding Hachimura: So more like two picks and a swap, since in 2028 the Wizards get the worse pick between the Lakers pick and their own. If the Lakers have the better record, they just keep their own pick and Wizards get nothing? If the Wizards have the better record, they get the Lakers pick.
