I think from the outside looking in, Dallas looks like it has Cooper Flagg and lots of thoughts and prayers.
And I don't really know how far off that is.

It’s not as though Coop and co. are under pressure to win the championship this year. There’s a crap ton of good stuff on roster besides Coop this year. Some of it is extremely high probability of working out; other aspects are shakier. But a lot of it will work out, and my bet is this team will end up better than most - inside or outside - expect. That, and they could still make one or two more significant moves.

Totally agree, and stuff like Embiid trades is what I was worried they'd do before (mostly before) hiring Ujiri. Since then, with each passing move made I've gotten more comfortable in the belief that they're operating with a real sense of where the team is and how to build their way to a better situation. I think they're way too smart to make a move like that, but the national perception is still that they're a dumb franchise who can be taken advantage of.

With the Embiid thing, I’d take him if Philon or Edgecombe and two unprotected firsts were coming with him. That’s a lot different than sending our 3-vet package for him for poots and giggles. That’s what the off-season is all about. ![]() I don’t have hope that they will be a contender next season or anything. I do have hope in that the front office seems to have correctly identified what’s needed around Cooper going forward. They had reported interest in Simons and Rui. The two best 3PT shooters in the UFA market. They eventually traded for 3 great 3PT shooters. I’m not saying what they did is a home run. The players they brought in could very well be meh. BUT outside of a ‘star’ (reported interest in KL) trade, this is at least an indication that the front office has a plan and will be aggressive in doing whatever it takes, with a governor that’s willing to spend… and the ‘rebuild’ with Coop may not take as long as some thought. Edit: If I had more ‘hope’ in Kyrie and Lively’s ability to stay on the floor. I would absolutely be talking about this team as a top-6 playoff team. Kyrie-Flagg-Lively trio will work on the basketball court. The problem is getting them to play significant minutes together for it to matter.

Found the clip. Simmons must still be recovering from the colonoscopy. Probably just doing a bit to distract himself from the pain of the Jaylen Brown trade.
The other guy being the voice of reason. "To do what?" lol https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jZxILjbb5FE
The Embid to Dallas idea is just media fodder. Simmons had an extra 30 seconds and blathered an half-brain idea of his. No one is going to push back so why not.
I think it's apparent that this FO has a plan with a clear timeline - not unlike OKC about 5-6 years ago. Dallas has more advantages than OKC had, more veteran talent to trade off, and a real star in Flagg. National media outlets and podcasts are pretty clueless about most of this, but they need the clicks for what advertising they have. I trust the local media scene much more.

[Fischer] There has been word this morning in Las Vegas that Victor Wembanyama is considering signing less than his five-year, $251 million maximum rookie scale extension to provide San Antonio greater financial flexibility.

BTW, I just want to shout out to Smitty for keeping the board updated. I've seen you on Discord at 7 in the morning rumor-cruising.
![]() Seriously thanks for all the work you put in, it really helps the off-season to have this kind of information funnel for the board.

Wemby better get his bag while he can, 7-6 guys don’t have a history of aging well.

It’s the Super Bowl for the NBA fan. We have without a doubt some of the smartest, brightest basketball people here. If I can offer up stuff from the rumor mill, I know we’ll have at least 10 people give some incredible insight or out of the box look at it. Not to mention the incredible work from those that understand the CBA and share all those nuggets. It certainly helps me understand more than just X’s and O’s. I appreciate the shoutout though. I’ll keep posting some of my unpopular takes from time to time also… it helps keep the conversation going

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed forward Tarik Biberović.
Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. https://www.nba.com/mavs/news/mavericks-...-biberovic —————— Did anyone catch the actual contract terms?

Doesn't this mean someone has got to go off the current roster?
I count 14 without Tarik or Ishchenko. (07-10-2026, 02:30 PM)michaeltex Wrote: Doesn't this mean someone has got to go off the current roster? The Mavs can carry up to 21 on the roster through training camp. Right now though, they have 15. Plus 3 Two-Ways, which is the max. Kyrie | Sasser | Nemby Christie | Klay | Sergio Flagg | Naji | Tarik PJW | Aldama | Martin Morez | Gafford | Lively Smith, Poulakidas, Lawal are the current two-ways Ishchenko and Cisse are unsigned. BWill and Powell are also UFA’s.
