And yes - allow the players to have a little bit of physical play in the post. No throwing elbows of course but a little pushing and shoving should be allowed
Ok ok...I like new ideas. Do you think this would slow the game down too much? I like this thought though. It makes the possible 3 or 4 point play more difficult than just awarding the 3 or 4 points...you have to hit the additional free throw.

The problem with the free throw idea is that it would slow the game down and isn't great for viewership.

The NBA could speed up free throws a lot if they really cared
There is so much time wasted that I can usually go to the fridge and get a snack AND still get back before the second free throw

I agree...if they thought this was a good idea...they could make it work with sped up free throws.
3pts for dunks, 2.5pts for current 3's and 2's for everything else?
Also...with increasing the dunk pionts....think about how many new creative alley-oops we would be seeing. Currently teams are scheming for the 3pt shot...think about the movement and pics we would be seeing by teams trying to get that 3 point dunk. Maybe Im over thinking it and alley-oops wouldnt happen more often...but it would be cool ha.

Without the incentive of extra points for dunking which would certainly increase these numbers you'd be looking at adding 2.4 to 5.1 more free throw attempts per game. The NBA has been trying to speed up the game so this idea while interesting seems to be counter to the direction the league wants to take the game.
Also keep in mind that teams are putting up 27-43 3PA per game. So a 3PT dunk probably isn't enough to offset how three point crazy the league is.

Yeah but currently when a player goes to the line for a free throw I always think of the line from Bull Durham
Skip: You guys. You lollygag the ball around the infield. You lollygag your way down to first. You lollygag in and out of the dugout. You know what that makes you? Larry!
Larry: Lollygaggers!
Skip: Lollygaggers.

Well lollygagging does have some benefit of giving your players more of a breather.
If you want extra crazy ideas, reduce the diameter of the rim. It wouldn't help bring the midrange back but you'd probably get more action around the basket.

Make the FT non-rebounding. Regardless of make or miss the opposing team gets the ball like they do on a normal made basket. No lining up, no staying behind the 3pt line, make it/run to FT line/take shot within 5 non-clock seconds, start defending. My biggest gripe is that it will slow down pushing the pace after a made shot.
Also eliminate the corner 3pt shot. keep the arc, but let it merge into the sideline to keep the same distance.
Also, no fouls inside the restricted area unless the ball's over your head. Would eliminate a lot of foul hunting by players like Harden.

Players who remained in the Bay Area during the All-Star break were given a morning window and night window. They needed to show up at the team’s facility during one of the two for a league-mandated daily COVID-19 test. James Wiseman, mentally taxed after a stressful end to the first half of his rookie season, didn’t appear on Friday or Saturday.
“He just forgot,” Steve Kerr said.
“Completely forgot about the first two days,” Wiseman said. “Tested the last two days. But I’m human. I made a huge mistake.”
Kerr planned to implement a pretty substantial rotational tweak in the second half. Wiseman was a candidate to take back his starting spot and be a key cog in a new second unit that now includes Nico Mannion and Jordan Poole. That’s a three-man lineup combination that’ll be an important part of the next couple of months but has very little court time together.
If Kerr had just handed Wiseman a starting job and an increased 20-minute per night role (as planned) right after that error in professional responsibilities, would that go over well in an older locker room that was already about to see two veterans (Brad Wanamaker and Damion Lee) lose their rotation role for Mannion and Poole? Did Kerr overdo it by completely benching him on national television?

It was a long article. Wiseman missed a test and Kerr benched him for it. GSW were looking to increase his role and get him back to starting. That didn't happen because of a mental mistake. I think KP forgot a test as well in the bubble...

Skimming through the games today there are so many teams that just don’t have anything for a casual fan to tune in. Luka even with his flaws is one of the few ones who can pull in casual fans. The league is in trouble. Then again they have heard those doomsday predictions before but the ratings stay high. Can’t understand it.

It has always been this way.
The league was in trouble, and then Magic and Bird saved it. Then, Jordan. Then, Kobe and Shaq. Then, Lebron, who is still going. Curry...Giannis.
There are plenty of exciting players. Maybe more than there ever have been at one time. If your point is that a lot of teams aren’t worth watching, then I totally agree, but the NBA has always marketed itself on the merits of maybe five guys at a time.
Luka, Zion and *gulp* LaMello Ball are next.
