Listening to them it felt more like they pointed out what a lot of us are saying. The way the Mavs constructed the roster in the offseason KPs performance will be crucial. The Mavs did not adress the need for another scoring option or playmaker. That leaves KP as the only player not named Luka with the potential to fill that role. I interpreted MF take as a just roll with it approach. KP is here and he will play. Might as well try to get max production out of him. Now is the time to find out if he can be the player we saw in the bubble. Give him the touches and shot attempts he wants. If he steps up and emerges as a legit 2nd or 1b option things look really good in Mavs land. If he cannot do it they have clarity and know that it is time to move on.

This is EXACTLY the impression I got, listening to the podcast. Not so much that they independently had intentions as to how KP should play. More like, they believe he is the CRUCIAL factor now in enabling the Mavs to move forward. So that, now that the Mavs have decided to proceed in that direction, the effort should be given every single chance to work, even if that requires organizing the coaching systems in ways they otherwise probably wouldn't.  Give it their absolute best shot. 

Also calling attention to the fact that there is a limit to the extent that KP's health issues can be addressed by organizing a system designed to cover his limitations. That will be more a matter for the medical staff and KP himself. If he doesn't recover his mobility/strength, this may be a doomed mission. (Not to say they predicted that -- they were making every effort to be upbeat.)
