It looks like everyone wants to be somewhere in the 6-12 spots. Top picks want to trade down and get assets while bottom ones want to move up. The question for me is, what will happen with the remaining picks once those spots 6-12 are gone? What value will remaining picks have?
It looks to me like following guys are seen as sure picks in the 1-12 range in most mocks (in no particular order):
- Hayes, Edwards, Ball, Avdija, Okongwu, Wiseman, Vassell, Okoro, Haliburton, Toppin, Williams
Thats eleven guys most anaylsts see in the top of the draft, so we could conclude they are seen as most sure prospects and there are probably not really big differences in value between them. Some have high ceiling, but big question marks if they can reach it. Some know how to play but are not so athletic,... Based on this I guess price to move from lower position to get one of those guys would be substantial.
After this group comes a huge group of players that have nice positives in some areas but bigger or lower question marks in others. Based on this it might be relatively cheaper to trade up once those guys are gone. What do you think?

Ayton was safe bet for everyone involved in Phoenic. Owner wanted him, fans wanted him. If they would draft Doncic and he would get injured in the first month, while Ayton would be performing, GM and coach would be publicly linched. In the situation as it is, everyone is still satisfied in Phoenix. I think it was a very basic risk management strategy.
