The first option doesn't really make much sense. Lakers would still be at 16 players under contract, meaning they would need to either cut someone like Hardy (higher expiring deal that could come handy as a tradeable contract at TDL) or find another trade. Also, I don't think that a third string center is worth giving up one of the few draft assets they have left. I think the most likely outcome by far is they either cut Knecht or ship him somewhere with some cash as compensation. If he would have any value, he would be long gone. The alternative could be a consolidation 2 for 1 trade.
