So, what do we want to set as the over/under for Lively's starting number.  I nominate $17.5mm (just over what Gafford makes this next season).  I'll take the over.  Maybe there is a disconnect between what the team is likely to do and what we as fans would do if we were making the decision.

Since "we fans" dont all agree, the Mavs certainly have a disconnect with some who are opining on this. But who knows, their disconnect in thinking about Lively might not be with who you think. 

I think the softening NBA revenues are already making it less likely for them to want to take the wild financial swings. So I think they will tend to be way more conservative than some might expect (see Watson, Peyton). That's my guess on their thinking on Lively.
