DAL: Shaedon Sharpe (+2.6M)
MIA: Klay Thompson (+1.3M)

It gives the Mavs a 23 yo 6’5 combo guard (hopefully the one guard Schmitz likes).
Gives the Heat the guy they want in Klay.
Then Portland gets the front court help they need and frees up some guard minutes for the Vets and Scoot, while saving the cheap owner money.
1 I wouldn't do THAT deal because none of the Mavs issues are solved, and it is financially upside-down for the Mavs. I don't like ending up with ANY of these results:
- They end up paying tax.
- They still have too many players on the roster.
- They don't get "paid" for Klay-to-MIA (which they priced at 1 FRP).
- In today's NBA, total dollars swapped - while not a CBA thing - tend to be a fairly big part of the equation. Mavs would be sending out 17M and taking back 90M in obligations. They should want to get paid for that huge difference somehow.
2 Like you, I would trust that Schmitz would know if Sharpe is worth having. But otherwise he doesn't excite me. He's an inefficient ultra-high-usage player on a big long contract, which doesn't look like what Mavs want. I'm not a fan of the ball hog who sees his role as getting his points. But he looks like a VERY bad fit in PORT, now bumped to backup role, so I have to imagine POR would love a taker, which opens a door.
3 Assuming he was approved by MS, however, that's promising. But if so, then I would still hope for some tweaks, to make it look like this.
DAL: Shaedon Sharpe, FRP from POR
POR: Nikola Jovic + Martin, FRP swap to POR (from MIA)
MIA: Klay Thompson
SOME NOTES ON THAT VARIATION
DAL still adds lots of money (90M in, only 37M out). But they solve some issues, and if Sharpe has some utility to fill a role here, then the money can make sense. He might get in the way of minutes and development of young guards.
POR has roster room to add the extra body, and still stays a few mill below the tax line. Martin might have some utility to them. They have plenty of picks to work from.
MIA wins this trade, unless Jovic has some real value to POR. But they have no other real assets to offer, unless they toss in a pick swap to POR.
