I would say in response, depends on 1) how NBA ready Sergio turns out to be, and 2) whether Tarik comes over or not. To me, the answer on both needs to be affirmative for your take to have validity. The question you’re answering is not, of course, is this a contending roster, but rather, is this the best structured roster for Coop and our other young guys to flourish developmentally and set the table for the future. I think that, even if those two earlier qualifiers are yeses, the answer to that is still no, and believe they need to use the assets they have that don’t seem to fit the future competitive timeline (PJ, Gaff, Naji, and/or Klay - Martin is ballast, not capital) to bring in a diamond in the rough guy with creative potential - a Scoot, a Wallace, or a Black - to set up the timeline of Coop’s first competitive era.
I'm not sure whether you are trying to agree or not, but if you are trying to argue with what I said, you really aren't reading very closely.
The trade ideas being proposed that I spoke to were for Mathurin and Robinson. Fairly high salaries, and NOT players who are offensive engines for a team. I didn't (and don't) think that's a good move because I think those are just random skilled pieces, but don't address the area of need. The Mavs already have lots of skilled pieces.
I said they DO need "a player who can actually create offense, and do so efficiently". Of course players like Scoot or Black or Wallace would be desirable IF (but only if) they (1) can be that player AND (2) can be obtained. I'm kinda skeptical any of that is actually true
