Obviously, I can't be sure about anything... but I believe they truly coveted Johnson. He looks like a long-time starter... and the guards were a toss-up.
I also believe they had looked at Sergio for years. I'm guessing the FO knew more about him than most. They probably really wanted him too, but I'm not sure they would have passed on Philon at that point.
In regards to the Russian, I think this FO would be happy either way on bringing him over here. That's probably a decision he has to make. But the FO liked him enough to lock him in.
