That Portland owner bought the Carolina Hurricanes after they missed the play-offs for nine straight years and they have not missed the play-offs once since and just won the Stanley Cup. So he clearly knows what he is doing.
Doing things his way doesn't necessarily mean he knows what he's doing. All I've heard since he bought the team is he's a penny-pincher and is petty in regards to how he runs his teams. Two-way players weren't allowed to fly with the team on road games, Staff members and media have to check out of the hotel early to avoid fees, not supplying fans with t-shirts for home playoff games, the broadcast team also didn't travel with the team during the play-in tournament, and low-balling his coach's salary. That's why Spiltter left for the Bulls after doing a pretty good job as interim coach.
