There’s widespread belief that Anthony Davis will request a trade from the Wizards after never playing a single game for them.
Davis wants to be on an immediate title-contending roster, which Washington isn’t.
Davis was blindsided at the trade deadline being sent to Washington.
And THIS is why, although unfortunate, dumping him to get the payroll right was ultimately the necessary and right decision, imho.
He's never going to see himself in the light he should to end his career. He has been a great player (still would be, if he could string some healthy months together), but there's no acknowledgement or concession on his part regarding his lack of availability when it comes to either treatment or salary. In his mind, he's a top-10 player, period. He and Rich Paul are about to make everything about a max extension, AND they're going to have opinions about who offers it to boot!
I supported the idea of him as a fit here more than most, and I have more respect for his game than most, but I'm honestly so happy and relieved our Mavs are out from under this mess. End of day, kudos to them for not doubling down and following the "sunk cost" trail to ruin. That's how I see it, anyway.
