Why should Washington accept anything less, especially for two players (Martin/DAR) that have zero developmental worth to them? Cap space is like gold under these new rules.
The real question is why would the Mavs want to do this? They are YEARS away from contending and need all the picks they can get/keep.
Mavs need to open new avenues to add young talent to build around Flagg or he´s in Boston in four years, not dump short minor contracts that are barely a nuisance, for more future capital.
The argument would be to get out of the repeater tax business when they are trying to rebuild. Personally I would prefer to do this by exchanging some kind of combination of AD/Klay/Gafford/Naji for cap relief and assets (which would address the repeater tax issue next season). I think cap relief is cheaper from an asset standpoint when you do it that way, but either option is probably better than doing it in the offseason.
