Here is a better exercise that is more comparable to the situation: what would Mavs fan have given for AD one year ago to pair with Luka?
Some would have put Lively off the table, but most would still welcome the deal. None would care about any draft picks.
Mavs right now in No man's land in the wild wild west. A year and half after being West Champions, they have Flagg, they have ring ambitions forso long due to the trio of Dirk>Luka>Flagg. Embiid serves no purpose while being done physically.
Atlanta is a franchise that has made rebuild tons of times, that never made it to the finals, that has a chance in the wide open East where the best 3 teams have two of them losing their franchise player this year and the 3rd one hired a coach that didn't make it out of first round in dozen of years. There is a reason the interest in AD is all from the East, and not from the best teams of last year that won't compete this time.
