I saw a Chicago-based idea just now that felt both realistic and disappointing. You get two picks out of the Bulls, but one is for taking on Patrick Williams. The deal is Collins/Williams/Coby plus two picks for AD and either DLo or Hardy. Dosunmu in place of White would also work, but it puts Chicago well into the tax and probably requires other tweaks.
From Chicago's standpoint:
It makes sense to keep Vuc as Davis can play PF next to Vuc or C next to Buzelis.
They don't have any need for Patrick Williams between Davis, Buzelis and long term project Essengue at the four. BTW, it is amazing how consistently pedestrian Williams per36 stats are from year to year. He's made basically zero progress in his per minute production since he was a 19 year old rookie. Starting or off the bench, his per 36 is always about 13/5/2. He doesn't show up well in BPM, On/Off, PER or VORP. He's just a guy making a flat $18mm the next two years after this.
Personally, I kind of like Dosunmu over White here, but that makes Chicago a taxpayer, which they rarely do. I've seen it said they won't pay Giddey and White, so trading White makes sense. It is all very logical for Chicago.
For Dallas, we are adding two more guys to the frontcourt. Expiring Collins is supposed to come back from injury any day. I probably don't sign him in the summer. He was once thought of as a stretch 4/5, but there is no stretch there and he's hurt all of the time. Williams joins the crowded list of forwards and competes with Naji to join the Flagg/PJ/Naji three man rotation at forward. I think you have to play him some to see what you have and try to rehab some value, but Naji is kind of a fan favorite (and his ball handling has been kind of necessary).
On the Dallas side: The value is really White and the picks. I'm not thrilled with taking Williams, but the person who posted this (probably rightly) says you don't get the second pick if the deal is for expiring Huerter instead of Williams. White starts until Kyrie comes back. The issue is what happens when Kyrie returns. I'm not sure you can close games with Kyrie and White. I think it would be easier to move Dosunmu to the bench and continue closing with Christie. You also get better D with Dosunmu. But, if you do that, you probably have to eat a contract. You could put Exum in the deal and cut DLo (as opposed to putting DLo in the deal and cutting Exum). Sending the smaller amount lets you change out Dosunmu for White without putting Chicago into the tax.
Dallas would end up under the first apron in a Collins/Williams/Dosunmu/Picks for AD/Exum deal where we cut DLo. Financially, next season's $58.4mm for AD turns into $18mm for Williams plus whatever you pay Dosunmu and whatever the extra pick costs. I'm guessing you save $20mm or so. Less if the deal is for White, but you probably still drop maybe $10mm or so paying White, Williams and a middle of the pack pick versus paying AD.
