I'm not against it in theory, but as you said, they don't have their own picks, which are the most important assets to control in the midst of that approach. It would be one thing if 2-4 of those picks were owned by one team and there was a plausible way of getting them back (I can't remember who, but we just saw a team do that recently), but the Mavs' picks are all over the place. It's just not a tenable strategy, imho.
In a strange way I am kind of grateful they don't have those picks and a big part of me hopes they don't get any of them back. It really sucks to watch your team and have any part of you hope they lose. The biggest reason to go into a multi year tank is to increase your chances of landing a great player, and I think they already have that guy. I can live with tanking this year (its not like they have any choice) but I hope that we come out next offseason with a young functioning roster that will be fun to watch develop.
