I'm all for it, personally. Football players decline faster than those of any other sport, and to me it seemed like Parsons was starting to fade down the stretch of these seasons more and more with each passing year. Plus, Jones has a history of overpaying older players for past glory and name recognition. I am nowhere near as scared of old MLB or NBA players as I am of old NFL players. If I ran an NFL team, I'd be much more frugal than most GM/owners with 2nd contracts, and I'd almost never give out 3rd contracts.
I think refusing to overpay an undersized defensive end (because that's what he is - should've been a linebacker, but all he has ever done is rush the passer) might end up looking like genius in the (not very) long run.
