The rumor is his agent asked for the trade, but Grimes said he was surprised to be traded.  He was a restricted free agent, so Mavs could match any other offer.  He could threaten to take the qualifying offer (very unlikely) but there is no hint he wanted out that badly.  As in the Luka trade, Occam's Razor says it was simply GM incompetence.

I haven't listened to DLLS podcast from today but supposedly Stein says there was no Grimes trade request.  Nico just liked Martin.

BTW, I have seen a few of the games but the DLLS and Locked on Mavs podcasts have really helped me.  Whether I am a fan moving forward is TBD, but they are doing really nice work.   I have not been able to listen to any of the regular NBA podcasts that I enjoy.   I have been instead listening to a lot of news podcasts....and that is going just great
