Once Kyrie is back and AD as well as our other bigs they easily get in the top 4 with the team we have built around them assuming we end our bad health issues. The key to taking things to the next level is getting healthy.
PJ Lively and or Gafford plus Klay next to the dynamic duo is a recipe for winning a ring not tanking and if we can add one young prospect in the draft and get some interest in the group of guys playing now then maybe we may get a second decent role player to add to that core with the right trade offer.
Kessler has shown signs of developing his game but with a future using 7' bigs he and others we used at the 4/5 in small ball will be fighting for minutes at the 3 instead of getting small ball center duty. An improved Brandon Williams means we have a lot of decent guys able to back up Kyrie. These are the bottle necks that we must handle and if they draft a PG or SF to crowd things even more then what.
Is small ball center a position we keep to protect the teams bigs by using them in blow outs instead of risking injury to our bigs? Managed minutes for our injured bigs is a thing I think Kidd has to learn how to do more often. The key to using bigs is getting the scoring going inside early in the game so you get the other teams bigs in foul trouble and bench them that enables you to rest your bigs and play more small ball guys that can hit 3's. The talent we have when healthy is impressive enough to make any expert talking head go off on what if for hours.
The best ability is availability so injured bigs = time management and using guys in small ball in the end of games when our team is blowing out the other guys badly.
SF/PF bottleneck: PJ, Naji, Kessler, OMAX,
PG bottleneck: Kyrie, Brandon, Din, Exum,
Still here to use at SG: Klay, Max, Martin, Hardy, and some of these guys can get minutes at the 1 or 3 as well. Hardy at the 1 and all the rest at SF man that is some serious bottle necking.
Kai Jones is he really hurt or just out to help tank because he was looking good in that one game. PJ has to move from the 4 to the 3 because AD is wanting to play PF and that means you use Gafford and Lively at center and you see if Jones can fill in behind all 3. Given everyone's health challenges we have to keep Powell as well unless we draft a big or 2.
Do we add another BIG to that mix with our draft activity?
Who gets brought up from the 2 ways if any?
Do we add a PG in the draft? A best player available approach means we have no clue as to what the team is going to do.
One thing is likely due to all this talent and not enough star power: TRADES ARE COMING!!!!
Who is this teams third leading guy: Naji made a case somewhat but he has issues with his 3 being inconsistent yet he has that close to the basket touch. With legit bigs carrying the weight around the rim for scoring is he now needed as much for that skill set and will he be trade bait because of that.
PJ comes back he is there to carry on as the leading wing defender and Klay is the 3 point assasin. Those 2 along with the core of bigs and our dynamic due of AD and Kyrie is our future all the rest is trade bait or extra depth we may not need as much of once the team is back to full health.
I see nobody being safe except AD and Kyrie and possibly our guys like Kai, Lively and Gafford since who wants injured bigs.
