What if Nico was the genius? What if he foresaw a quick decline in Luka, and his career is likely to follow Zion’s? Maybe AD actually has MORE productive career left than Luka?
What if the 2029 FRP will end up as top-10? Or top-5?
What if the Mavs win a championship THIS YEAR?
Will any GM ever be willing to trade with us again?
This is completely ignoring the fact that Nico did not shop Luka. Even if it turned out to be the right move to get out from under him, the fact that he went to one team and did not shop Luka around (and there is no question he could have gotten a bigger haul) makes this an epic fail right off the bat. Its also ignoring the complete lack of concern for the Mavs future. No matter what happens in the near term, the long term has been greatly weakened.
What if the Mavs win a chip this year? That's like saying what if the Kings win a chip this year. Starting two centers with no point guard is not a model for success. The whole devil's advocate thing can be taken too far. Sometimes horrible decisions are made and there is no other reasonable way to look at it.
