Even if the Heat decided to offer Jimmy Butler an extension, he would now decline it, per @ShamsCharania.
The relationship between Butler and Miami is completely broken.
A standoff between Butler and the Heat’s front office will continue until a resolution is reached.
This has a chance to be fascinating to watch. Both sides typically get their way.
I tend to be pro-player on most situations. This is one of the areas I tend to say "come on". Butler is making 48 million this year and has a player option next year at 50 million. He is 35 years old. I think the Heat are well in the rights of not extending him right now. Sure, Butler can be pissed and it could be warranted for a "star" player, but he is older. He should need to play at a high standard whether he stays there or not.
If he is not traded, is he going to find a better option than picking up his option? I don't believe there will be many teams with that kind of money available.
