I think without Exum, we're sorely missing a "grown-up" to run the offense and set people up. Dinwiddie is still a better scorer and facilitator. Someone who thrives being the 3rd ball handler who creates his shot, vs. being the primary ball-handler and setting people up. Every stop in his career besides Dallas he's been the primary ball handler. I think that's the main reason he's thrived here. The first two pre-season games (and much of the year when we traded him for Kyrie), he was asked to be that facilitator.
But I think we may have our answer on what the Mavs may need this year and it's a PG off the bench who can defend. It's not so much a pressing need since Exum should return, but that is the most glaring thing I've noticed the first two pre-season games.
