It may not at all and they may have had Okongwu penciled in at this contract the entire time they were shopping Capela but just feels like they got a discount on their future big man is all.

That's actually a good question. I assume Capela is still viewed as a piece preferably moved, since this extension brings the inevitability of him losing his spot ever closer. But, to your point, maybe Capela can be convinced to come off the bench and take less on his next deal. I guess the question then becomes: is ATL's cap healthy enough to MAKE IT to the end of Capela's current deal?
