IMHO, a playmaker is a need for the Mavs. But that need isn't exactly immediate. They can open the season without and hope Jalen and maybe Terry, are good enough to hold the fort until help is available. But there is no question, the Mavs would NEED a playmaker in the play-offs, having one sooner than later is preferred for familiarity with the team, but IMHo, the Mavs can wait on Dragic (or any other playmaker) until the TDL.
Now Lauri is different. A young talent like that, who definitely wants out of his current team and has expressed early on, his willingness to join the Mavs shouldn't be a wasted opportunity. He has fit issues, but he is a floor spacing PF and is very good at it. If anything, the Mavs have an asset for trade or a KP replacement should the Mavs decide to move on from KP.
