I can't deal with it. Not going to freak out until something actually happens, but this would seriously bum me out.
I understand that and it is fair. I just want to increase the starting level talent. Defense would be a concern. You would really need to hope KP improves on defense in this case and also fill the other two starting spots with versatile defenders.
I also think Luka is not a bad defender. He just carries such a large load on offense, you can't count on him for defense. But I think in a playoff series he can be solid.

Nah. I want to see what happens with the rest of free agency first. Not getting an almost 36 year old 6'0" guard on a $90M contract is not a "miss" IMO.

Has anyone of you calculated, what Miami can pay Lowry while retaining Robinson? Certainly not 30M, can they?

So if Miami signs and trades for Lowry they will probably need to give up one of their young kids. But they could re-sign Robinson and also have the MLE for a guy like Batum. They always seem to find a way.

I think that is possible. But Robinson MIGHT be more attainable now. Just watching it closely.

It would be a "miss" if that was what the team was trying to accomplish. And, no matter how you will convince yourself it isn't, it seems pretty clear that it is what they were hoping for.
Cool to be happy about them failing - I can understand that. But, good or bad from our individual POV's, this would represent the Mavs getting beaten in free agency again, and that will absolutely be the narrative.

Finally, someone connecting them to Powell!

I had zero expectations for this summer, Donnie and Carlisle left the Mavs in a DEEP hole. A championship level fix does not happen overnight. Gotta give Nico more time, he literally just got hired. No draft picks, no assets.
Just add a couple role players, some depth, bank on internal improvement (KP, Brunson, new/better coach in Kidd). We good.

I just wish to see an offseason where we can transition to our B and C options if we happen to whiff on the A top option
Adding on 2 or 3 MLE level guys to multi-year deals is perfectly acceptable

This is a fair perspective.
I just wish they hadn't made their Lowry courting so public if they were going to lose. I kind of miss the old, cloak and dagger style a bit. We're going to have to hear local (and national) fans talk for another year about how people don't want to play here, which I don't believe is the case and annoys me to no end.

He's also way more inefficient from 2. His highest EFG% is .561 in 55 games on the Clippers the year he got traded to Philly and that was with shooting 43% from 3. He is sort of like THJ in that yeah he'll take someone off the dribble for a mid range shot, but do you really want that... ever? Similar assist numbers early in their careers. Collins has way better inside touch and he actually does hit midrange shots, he just rarely takes bad shots which is why his efg% is elite. 63% & 61% in years 3 and 4. Better rebounder too. Ball handling can possibly be developed still which is the biggest weakness. Run offense through guards when Luka is on the bench.
After seeing the Slovenia games, it's pretty obvious Luka needs an elite roll man and more inside threats in general. Collins gives that plus elite shooting to stay 5 out so he's the ideal target of course. The rumors coming out still only have ATL giving him $24/year (likely with incentives) with most random twitter fans calling it an overpay so it's not a lock yet. If you can get Collins, then you probably look for a roleplayer rim protecting stretch 5 to replace KP in a year or 2 to shed that max salary cause I don't think you need much else from that spot.
Not completely sure, but I think 4 out with an elite roll man is better than 5 out. So someone like Holmes works plus he's got a really long range floater too so he's not useless outside the restricted area. Still difficult to find a rim runner with good perimeter defense as a fit next to KP though. This FA needs to come away with someone like Powell with better defense or a 3pt shot. Nance looks like a decent cheap filler for a rim running stretch 4 if the weight loss illness stuff wasn't too bad. Nance with Bagley off the bench as a developmental project would be great, but would have to find a way to get rid of most of the bigs on the team right now.
I agree its not a good comparison, but Collins does not provide 5 out because you do not want him at the 5. He was poor defensively in that position. That is why Atlanta brought in Capella and pushed him down to the 4. I think you lose a lot of his offensive value when you play him with another rim runner, but he needs to play with a true defensive 5. Hard to find defensive stretch 5s. I actually think he would be a great fit with Maxi.
Don't think Luka needs a rim runner. He is elite offensively in 5 out or with rim runner. What we really need is better rim protection, and if that means bringing a strong rim runner, Luka can work with that as well.

Oh ok. That makes more sense. I'll make a bold claim (not really) that some here will surely push back against. As much as we all want a roster upgrade, the Mavs of the last few years were actually made up of some good players.

I agree. Don't think roster composition was the main issue.

I just don't think Nico will be concerned about public and media narratives.
The reason I suggest the "smokescreen" and the "agent favor" as possibilities for Nico's approach is not as a "conspiracy" but as a LEGIT tactic to navigate the market.
What better way to position yourself in free agency than to have the other teams over spend on THEIR players. Hyping the players you DON'T want is a REALLY good way to help the market be favorable to you.
I genuinely think this COULD be a way that Nico is operating. I have no idea and am only guessing, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mavs sign the players they have NOT been connected to and "lose out" on all the players they were connected to: Lowry, DeRozan, Dinwiddie, Oubre, etc.

When have the Mavs been cloak/dagger? Mavs have been linked to most big names in free agency the last 10 years.
And it is true, no body wants to play here. Nothing wrong with that, it's okay; that's why it is important to build the team the right way instead of plan powder every summer like Don-nepotism.
