I am leery of putting any player next to Luka who cannot stretch the floor (either from 3 or as roll man), especially if they are going to be a significant cost. Same reason I'm out on DeRozan (although at least THT is young and provides needed defense).

Lakers went on a 24-2 run to bring the game to within 5 and forced Boston to bring Smart, Tatum and Brown back in for the final 1:49. For the game he was 7/15 for 19 points, 7 assists, 6, boards and 3 steals. Unfortunately, he missed all three of his 3's. Besides John Collins, THT is another player who I'm targeting in free agency. When given minutes to play, he has produced. And he's only 20. He needs to work on his 3 point shooting. But he can defend and he's a good ballhandler.

If the Mavs waive him they also waive his rights. Just think this is another case of a Bleacher Report employee not understanding the NBA.

Nevertheless, SH is very correct. It doesn't matter who stupidly wrote it and who stupidly copied what was not accurate - there is no possible scenario for Brunson to be a RFA this summer.

THT isn't a guy that's going to get away bc the Lakers have his rights and a GM isn't going to pay THT 80 mil on this short a sample size. I realize the eye test looks good on THT but he is still a 8 ppg scorer this year. Whatever the number is, I don't expect it to be crazy and I expect Lakers to match.

They'd love to keep him and will match up until a certain point, but their championship window is now and their are cap ramifications now (for LeBron's run) or in the future (for when they are the Lakers are AD's team). My guess is that number is around 15 million per. They also don't have to let him walk for nothing if they decide not to match.

Now you could talk me into a situation where maybe they find a S&T partner. That's the only way he is not a Laker. But he isn't going to get some massive deal off of such a small body of work.

I like Maxi but I wonder if we need to sell high on him. I love DFS not sure I am ready to let him go yet.

Any offer for THT (which will be matchable) will be limited by, and complicated by, the Arenas Rule. That lowers the offer possibilities to a starting cap hit in about the $18-19M range (but no higher). Not that I think he will get offered even that much (or is worth that much), however - THT's a DFS type guy (only with Lakers' hype), and DFS got $4M a year at a similar juncture in his career. |
