You'd need to be 100% as you'd be digging an asset hole that you probably aren't going to get out of during the Luka era.

I do not think the Mavs have a championship or a playoff caliber Front Court
KP had 5 Rebounds in 30 minutes and 0 free throws
Considering what Montrez, Cousins, and now Gobert did to us we need to upgrade the frontcourt really really bad

I'm with you. I don't hate the trade idea or anything though I do think it's too complicated to be realistic. I'm just saying if you are tossing out more future firsts, you need to be sure as that will hamstring you on future moves.

Can’t wait for all the powder the Mavs will have when Luka leaves after his rookie extension. They will have enough cap room to swing and Miss on EVERY free agent instead of just one or two.

I hated the idea of Drummond for a couple of reasons.
He will clog the lane for Luka drives, he can not guard perimeter players and will not work well defensively with KP as both playing at the same time is a disaster on defense against good shooting teams.
But the thing is.. the Mavs can't rebound nor put a body on physical players like Trez, Cousins, Jokic and even Gobert. Drummond at the very least will not be bullied. And if you score againt him, he can get it right back at you.
And we all know KP is going to miss games. So there would be times when Drummond is paired with Maxi, which I think is an ideal pairing.
KP, Drummond and Maxi. That should be the core front court. Unles the Mavs can get Aaron Gordon or John Collins. Which probably wont happen.

Maybe that should be more like 4+ years ?Mavs should be ready to contend from next season already. I do believe already this season, but many would not agree. But definitely from next season with a good offseason that doesnt trade Kleber, JRich, DFS away. Powell yes.

Mavs continue to waste the MLE and it is really annoying me. I actually thought that they finally made a good move with the Curry contract last year and they followed it up with the WCS, Burke, Terry trio instead of going after one player that would actually be a part of the top 8 rotation.

With the 18th spot, if Mavs want to use it, there are still several interesting names available:
- Korver. He is 39 but Mavs really need shooting help
- Mavs legend Lee
- Ilyasova could be an interesting pick up
- I think Rondae Hollis Jefferson is also still available

That's who it will be. Won't move the needle a bit.
But, I wouldn't blame them, because they desperately need someone who requires no special attention to learn the system. Dude would walk in the door and be more up to speed on what they're trying to accomplish on either end of the floor than 4-5 guys getting minutes right now.

A big that can rebound would be nice.

Why? Do you think there's anyone on the street who's going to leapfrog ahead of KP, Kleber, Powell, WCS and/or Johnson in the rotation? I don't. I don't even think all of those guys will be in the rotation two weeks from now.

Because none of our guys rebound well and we are getting murdered on the boards. I'm not sure anyone on the street can help us out there but it's an obvious need for the team.

Agree, but the way the roster is set up, THIS YEAR'S mavs have only one way to succeed: some of the guys I mentioned in the big rotation stepping up and playing better. It is what it is, at least until the trade deadline, I suppose.

Dwight could improve I suppose but he's never been the best rebounder in the first place. KP is the only guy I could see realistically stepping up from that rotation as far as rebounding is concerned. Maybe we'll get desperate and trade for Drummond or Cousins (gasp). Being better defensively doesn't matter if you don't clean the glass. It would also be a neat experiment for those who think KP and a more traditional center can't work together.

I'm surprised Ilyasova is out of the league. 36% three point shooter.

I've read that they're negotiating, but has it been decided?

It's not dead-dead. Nothing ever is.
At this point there is no 18th man and it's going nowhere at all. For now.
The currently insurmountable obstacle is that the objections are so varied and from so many different directions.
- Players, teams with tax issues, and teams without all have deeply embedded self-serving views on what's fair as to whether the 18th man would be 2-way only.
- Some teams who have suffered from covid shortages don't want to change the situation to make it easier for the competitor that might be hit.
- And many feel little value in another player on the roster, and prefer to make it easier to cancel their game when hit by covid (rather than adding another body that might force them to play with a stripped down group of 8).
