The flexibility of this roster is amazing. Plus the trade deadline is there for us. See where we are then, but THj/OPj and Johnson/Aldridge swaps could be easy deals to make. Why couldn’t we be the 2nd best team in the west if everything goes well?

And, if Dallas were in a different situation overall, like if they were contenders with the roster in place, only they were hoping for an even better shooter or they were somehow worried about THJ leaving for nothing, then I'd do it, for sure.
If Giannis signs his Supermax in December would the Mavs consider a THJ for Hield trade? I think you could argue pretty easily that Hield is a better version of what you get in THJ. I would be for such a move, I don't think Hield would be hard to move if he doesn't work out but it's hard to picture how a guy that can score like that wouldn't work out in Dallas.
I worry Mavs will still want to keep cap space open in 2021 even if Giannis signs his supermax. I would much rather have the bird in the hand of Hield and try to resign J Rich. Mavs have 2 stars and the other guys just need to slide into well-fitting roles in the offense. Hield is your shooter and scorer. J Rich is your best defender that can also shoot and score. The 5th starter would be DFS or Maxi that provide additional 3D. And that's your team, I think that would be a contending team.
Mavs could just roll with THJ indefinitely. I do think THJ will benefit from J Rich being out there as another wing threat to score. For my money I would try to land Hield if you could really get him for just THJ straight up.
If I am not mistaken, we do not have to trade THJ. Hield has a poison pill contract so Sacramento does not have to take the same salary in return so you could see a pick and maybe Iwundu for Buddy Hield or maybe Sacramento should give us a pick since we are taking on extra salary. Yeah, I’m only taking Heild with a pick. He’s not worth missing out on FA. Hardaway’s contract is now an asset. I’d rather have otto porters bird rights than buddy
Hield for Wiggins makes more sense
The key is what happens with Bogi. I don't see them trading within their division and I doubt Hield wants to go to Golden St. where he would be in the same situation in a year but I guess anything is possible.
I think what I am getting at is that Sacramento has to really think about their future here. They just resigned Fox to an extension so if I was to guess I that taking on Bogi for 18 million and keeping him is better than trading Hield and taking on salary.
The Mavericks could provide a pick and iwundu for hield or a pick swap in 2025 for taking on the salary should be a fair trade.

I would be really interesting in a THJ for Hield trade at this point. I am fine with waiting for Giannis extension as that is a big shoe to drop which will effect several front offices around the league. Assuming the Supermax is signed I like Hield a lot as a long-term upgrade over THJ. His contract is not bad at all. It decreases over time so after this year you only have 2 more years left at less money. Hield is a career 41% shooter from 3 and only 27. I honestly think 2 years of Hield in 21 is better and resigning J Rich is better than any other realistic option in 2021. If Giannis stays then Jrue is going to stay with him bc Bucks will pay him whatever it takes (see Middleton's contract). Plus you can get Hield right now, vs waiting for 2021 to unfold. I hope the Mavs strongly consider this option if Giannis takes his supermax.
For the Kings I do think they are wanting to reshape their roster. They tried with Hield, Barnes, Bog and some vets to be decent and couldn't. I expect them to go more towards youth. THJ would give them a suitable replacement for Hield now that they could flip again if they need to.

Mavs could trade them THJ straight up and Kings would be done with it after this year. I have a feeling Kings will let Bogi go regardless.

They are both 2/3 combos. You can play Richardson and Buddy together just as much as you could play THJ and Richardson together.

Richardson can guard point guards. Luka and Hield can't guard much of anyone, but I think there's hope that's changing in Luka's case. Hield is one of the few players in the league who would be a major step down defensively from THJ.
In any event, I think that Luka's best trajectory toward becoming a plus defender is that he guards medium-sized wings (what used to be known as the "small forward," heh). He should play alongside two guards, one of whom is capable of guarding point guards.
I wish we would have gotten Bogi, as I think Luka-JR-Bogi is a great smalls lineup with good playmaking. Luka-JR-THJ is playmaking deficient, and Luka-JR-Hield would be even worse.
Here's an idea - trade THJ/Brunson for Buddy, then flip Buddy for Lavine.

Bulls and Spurs seem like teams to keep an eye on. They haven’t done much. Spurs likely want to cut salary. Bulls seem like they will be big players at the deadline
Mavs: White and Aldridge
Spurs: powell, lee(sNt), Brunson, Terry

LMA expires next summer, right? I would never do it otherwise. But this would get the Mavs out from under Powell's contract - their last bad one - and give them a solid point guard prospect on a rookie deal. I think Brunson and Terry would be a lot to pay for those privileges, but the long-term benefits could be strong.

Good thing Buddy wouldn't the main focus of the opposing team's defense. No team will prioritize doubling Buddy over Luka. Heck no team is going to prioritize doubling Buddy over KP. There is no way to double Buddy without leaving 1 of those 2 open. And if you don't then Josh Richardson will be wide open as well.
He wouldn't get that kind of defensive attention. I've been all in on the Buddy hype train since last year.

Nice explanation of the holes in Buddy's game.
A lot of those holes go away when playing next to Luka who will be the one defenses focus on and double team. If we really want to go after him, I'd love permission for Rick and our team psychologist to interview him. It seems like he has some personal demons that can't be hand waived away from being part of the Kings organization. He just doesn't seem like the type to take doubters and slights against him as a chip on his shoulder but instead gets lost in his own head. Personally, that makes me root for his success even more no matter where he ends up.

I think you could live with Hield's defensive shortcomings if the rest of the starting lineup is good defensively. KP, J Rich are good defenders and you round out the roster with Maxi/DFS or whoever as your last plus defender.

I wouldn't and I LOVE RoCo. What if Hou accepts Kleber 18 and 31 for RoCo?
Then would you rather have:
Kleber, Seth, Green and Terry
or
RoCo, JRich and Bey

Bummer. I've always had a soft spot for Boogie. Now I have to cheer against him.

Perfect fit. I would sign him as well when the team is falling apart because of locker room issues...
