B) as Donnie told us the other day, the 2-way contracts don't have day/game limits this year, meaning they can essentially be with the Mavericks full time. There are essentially 17 roster spots. Super smart of Donnie to take advantage of that with Bey to create an extra roster spot for a vet. If they don't use it, they can simply convert Bey to a real roster spot at any point. So, while it's possible Bey doesn't figure into the immediate on-court plans, I'd say it's premature to make that declaration.

The thing about cap space is that it's malleable. If Giannis wants to come to Dallas, he's going to come to Dallas regardless if the Mavs have space or not. Lets say in a perfect world the Mavs get Bogdon at his 4/72 deal. Bogdon in 2021 would be making 17 mil. If the Mavs were to trade Maxi and take nothing in return, they'd 4 mill off of Giannis' max. S/W of Powell would put them well over the top. Mavs could also do a SnT of Giannis to workaround any of those blockades. The point is, if Giannis wants to come to Dallas, capspace isn't the barrier.

Bogi is not going to happen, but if it did getting back to max space is pretty easy as you'd have four assets that could easily be moved for space: -Richardson (expiring or S&T) -Maxi/DFS on value contracts -Bogi (he's in high demand so trading him would be a lot easier than the guy you'd be upgrading from (THJ)). Even if it's a sight overpay, we rehabbed THJ to the point where his contract didn't seem so bad. There is no reason to think Bogi off of the King's isn't a performance bump and then a performance bump from playing with Luka in Carlisle's system. Cap room is nice and all, but assets that help you now to keep your superstars happy that can be moved to get you cap space or in a trade for a superstar are better.

In terms of forwards I think DFS could both start at PF and give you some SF minutes. If Mavs were able to land another big wing then its possible DFS gets moved to the bench and gets his minutes there at both PF and SF. Mavs could just get a backup C like Baynes and still be fine. With KP's injury history its not a bad idea to have 1 more big in the mix. I do think between DFS and Josh Green you should have most of your backup SF minutes covered. THJ and Rich are "wings" with one of them technically eating up a lot of those starting SF minutes.

Roster at 14.
Burke gets some of the MLE. Terry is likely to get some of the MLE. So it sounds like we're likely done outside of one cheap signing for whatever remains of the MLE. WCS type? Baynes probably wants bigger deal and bigger role once KP/Powell healthy.

What are the chances Bogi doesn’t get a good enough deal from a contender and he signs the 1 year deal to be an unrestricted FA next offseason?

Realistically I would be happy with WCS or Baynes. There are tons of guys out there that are at least decent, I don't doubt Mavs will get someone useful.

Post-Powell, KP became the 5 on offense and never looked back. Even in the playoffs KP was the 5. He does more rolling and other things as the center. On defense clearly he is the 5. You know he's the 5 for sure because they don't play him much with an actual 5 like Boban a lot (altho when they do I love it). This is why I was not crazy ab all this Wood hype. Wood of course is like a PF/C hybrid but in Rick's system he would be the 5. KP needs to be the 5 so that he has more to do than stand out on the perimeter. He needs to play next to a stretch 4 which has been a part of Rick's offense for more than a decade. Last year Rick tried Powell and KP together and it didn't work at all. After Powell's injury we saw KP unleashed as the 5 and so that put the end of any idea that KP would ever play next to another rim-rolling center again.

Step 1: Riley calls the league to sabotage the Bogi trade to the Bucks. Step 2: Keep your '21 space to a maximum. Step 3: ???

Those type of deals can get done whenever so I am sure they are still trying for something better. With the game of musical chairs going on its possible that an Ibaka, Millsap-level talent all of a sudden run out of suitors (altho not likely). At that point Mavs snatch up that player. Assuming that doesn't happen then Mavs will settle into a nice backup big. Bog is the only biggish name still out there and it's unlikely he will join the Mavs. Otherwise you have I think Ibaka, Millsap, Gasol as some of the more interesting names at center. Ibaka will prob go to Nets, Millsap probably stays (altho how come a deal isn't done yet?) and Gasol is the type of name that could slip through. Lakers would only offer him a vet min and I am not sure he is a Lakers type of guy. I would love his type of leadership on the Mavs. The thing ab Gasol is he won't look great most of the time but come playoff time he will give you an epic defensive performance or two in a playoff series.
