I think the KP trade was an aberration. Seems like it has raised everyone's expectations. We dont have a lot of trade assets. People keep saying I'm only trading #18 in a trade for a star. I see Lavine trades with a big bag of nothing going back to Chicago. I guess it's possible we take advantage of another terrible front office.
For me... It's that you have a long list of free agents next year to go and get to be your 3rd piece. We aren't talking max guys. Next year is just a great free agent year. Jrue is one of those.
That's the narrative but I really dont see all the stars we can sign next summer outside of the Giannis decision. Who are these stars available next summer? give a max to Gobert? give a max to 35 yr old Kyle Lowry?
Jrue, Hayward, and Oladipo are the only likely prizes in the FA class of 2021 and each have their warts. Jrue is probably the best of the three. Teams are trying to trade into the top 6-8 in this draft so they can put a package together for Jrue. And people here think 18 is too much to give up for him? The Mavs would fall over themselves to trade their assets for Jrue Holiday and try to get a head start on signing him.
No one is advocating trading 18 for Danny Green or Lou Williams but holding out for a star is severely overrating the #18 pick and highly delusional IMO. Feels like yall have spent so much time reading the draft thread for the last month that you're emotionally invested in that pick.

This, I think, is accurate.
But, to play devil's advocate, there's more you can do with cap space than sign free agents.

Wants out. Perfect fit next to Luka and KP. Makes sense from PG perspective, less pressure in Dallas

@"KillerLeft" you are hung up on one random KnicksSchool rumor which had specific names in it. I am looking at reports where Mavs "have interest" in a dozen or so guys. Fish did mention Oubre in an article, I don't recall if other Mavs ppl have. Honestly I have lost track of who has mentioned what at this point. All that to say I think Oubre is an obvious candidate for the Mavs. They want a third star and Oubre is not that so he may be down the list but I do think he is a viable trade target.

OKC has aquired roughly half of first round picks for next 6 years. Let's see if Houston can gather the rest

I think the only thing that could get worse for Houston fans at this point is if Silas convinces Tillman to deal Harden to Dallas.

I wouldn't expect that from Silas, that would be a horrible betrayal. I don't want that beard near Luka. RoCo, on the other hand...

Harden+Westbrook for THJ, Curry, Powell, Wright, WCS, Boban, DFS, Jackson, Kleber, 31, 18 and a future first. Who says no?
Mavs will start: Luka, Westbrook, Harden, KP. Make it happen Donnie!

Ok, for the record, I'm not "hung up" on anything.
I'm taking issue with your treatment of this ONE THING. Fish's mention of Oubre was in response to the NYFilmSchool thing. THAT'S what I'm saying. Everything that mentioned Dallas getting involved with this deal came from the source that listed #18 and DFS as the outgoing assets. So, I tried to figure out an angle that makes sense, ASSUMING THOSE ARE THE OUTGOING ASSETS.
You, alternatively, said "Mavs are getting Oubre? That's a GREAT use of Wright and Jackson!" It's a different game, and not nearly as fun or challenging.
All I'm saying is that if you want to dismiss the rumor...DISMISS THE RUMOR. So, no Oubre. No Rubio. No #10.

No, just some arguing and some new troll I don't know.
Oh, and Townsend is reporting that WCS might opt out.

I know I'm a Millsap homer, but with KP missing extended time, I wouldn't mind offering him a two year deal now.

Welp, given the KP-news I guess even more points to the MLE-target being a stretch big. Ibaka, Millsap, Gallo first and foremost.
Outside of Maxi none of our PF/C players are outside threats. That’s a huge issue I’m sure they will adress.

I love Milsap, but not if the 2nd best move is to make a good draft pick.
You're either trying to add to your youth or you're trying to get better quickly. I can make an argument for going both ways, but I sure as Hell wouldn't be excited about riding the fence.
If you're picking at 18, a guy like Wood for the MLE (or someone else who's young, if Wood costs too much) makes infinitely more sense to me.

Kept 31. Turned 18 into a future pick. Only really losing Wright in the process who never fit. That would be a great offseason

Millsap (age 35) is just trying to play it out as long as he's getting a paycheck. He's not the dominant player he once was, sort of. Seemed to take away from DEN instead of adding to it.
I'd rather see about getting WCS to opt in or re-sign for a couple more years. I think he may be a hidden gem that the Mavs could polish in something good. Plus he's been around the clubhouse for months now and there has to be some level of comfort there.

Also: if the scouts are high on Pokusevski then we’re probably in a great spot to take a swing at him. I don’t trust KP‘s durability at all unfortunately.
MLE: Millsap
#18: Poku
#31: wing (McDaniels? Bane? Quickley?)
Even without a trade we can make a few intrigueing moves.
